As theOperational Communications Coordinator you will be in a communications / dispatcher role, focused on coordination with the dispatch teams. The primary purpose of this position is to monitor transports to ensure operational business needs are met, properly assigned, tracked, and completed. With a goal of no trips missed, duplicated, or mishandled. You will also serve as the primary point of contact for Field Operations on escalations related to dispatch and trip handling.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate directly with dispatchers in markets to ensure trips near or crossing the market boundary are assigned to the correct team and handled without error.
- Monitor trip assignments to catch and correct missed trips, duplicate assignments, or miscommunication.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for Field Operations on escalations involving dispatch errors, coverage issues, or trip-handling concerns.
- Answer incoming calls and enter, verify, and prioritize transport and IFT requests as needed.
- Dispatch ambulances and crews using internal systems.
- Track unit status, location, and availability in real time across markets.
- Communicate clearly with field crews, facilities, and leadership via phone and dispatch software regarding assignments and delays.
- Document dispatch and coordination activity accurately for operational and compliance recordkeeping.
- Flag recurring boundary or hand-off issues between markets to leadership.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to sit for long periods of time
- Must be able to hear well
- Must be able to speak, write, and understand English fluently
Qualifications:
- Minimum of active EMT certification required.
- Prior experience in EMS dispatch, call-taking, or communications preferred; candidates will be trained on systems and procedures.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; comfortable coordinating across teams under time pressure.
- Demonstrated ability to multitask and make sound decisions in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
- Working knowledge of market area geography.
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
