At IQM, we are pioneering the next generation of quantum computers. Our experimental and theoretical teams work hand-in-hand, allowing us to extract maximum value from our unique, large-scale quantum hardware.
As we continue to grow, we are looking for aQuantum Error Correction Experimentation Engineer to join ourQEC team. In this role, you will contribute to the implementation, execution, and analysis ofquantum error correction (QEC) experiments on superconducting quantum processors.
Your work will help demonstrate and improve QEC capabilities on real hardware and directly support IQM’s roadmap towardscalable, fault-tolerant quantum computing.
This role combinesexperimental quantum computing, error modelling, and software development, offering the opportunity to work at the intersection of quantum hardware and software while contributing to key technical decisions that shape the future of our quantum computers.
What will you be doing?
Implement, execute, analyse, and report results ofquantum error correction benchmark and demonstration experiments on superconducting quantum processors
Develop features for theQuantum Computer Control Software stack in collaboration with quantum physicists and software engineers
Contribute to the development and evaluation ofQEC protocols and decoding approaches for near-term quantum processors
Model and analyseerror processes in quantum circuits and hardware experiments
Identify technology stack requirements for QEC experimentation and propose improvements to tools and workflows
Collaborate closely with experimental, theoretical, and software teams to support IQM’sfault-tolerant quantum computing roadmap
Participate in regular team discussions to coordinate experiments, analyse results, and drive progress in QEC development
What skills do you need?
Experiencecalibrating qubits and QPUs (superconducting preferred), beyond running gate-level workloads on cloud quantum computers
Experience withquantum error correction experiments and data analysis, with familiarity with QEC literature
Software engineering experience in Python, including environment management, testing, documentation, and version control
Understanding ofquantum information and QEC theory, including decoding algorithms and lattice-surgery-based approaches
Experience withtools for modelling errors in quantum circuits or physical quantum hardware
Familiarity withdigital and analog features of quantum computer control hardware
Experience working withlarge-scale quantum processor experiments or similarly complex experimental systems
Required skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
Ability to make workreproducible and usable for others through well-structured code and documentation
Ability and willingness to collaborate in adiverse, multidisciplinary team of physicists, engineers, and software developers
Education / Experience
PhD in a relevant discipline is considered a strong plus
Experience inexperimental quantum computing research or development is highly beneficial
What can I expect from IQM?
An opportunity to work with a passionate and diverse team on an important mission
A unique opportunity to make a real impact on the future of quantum
Growth and progress in a creative and open start-up environment
