Senior Business Analyst

First Derivative, an EPAM Company, is expanding its Toronto Practice and is seeking talented, ambitious, and commercially aware Senior Business Analysts to join our growing team.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on high-profile transformation and regulatory change programmes with leading investment banks, capital markets firms, and financial market infrastructure providers. You will play a key role in helping clients to break down complex business problems & flows, define requirements across data, process and technology, to be implemented on or across one of more platform such as trading, post trade or data analytic platforms.

As a Senior Business Analyst, you will work closely with business stakeholders, technology teams, and subject matter experts to analyse requirements, deliver solutions, and support the successful implementation.

Responsibilities

• Agile & Story Management: Facilitate Agile product teams in story and feature management, conduct story slicing to optimize delivery, and lead technical grooming sessions
• Gather, analyse, and document business and regulatory requirements through workshops, interviews, and stakeholder engagement
• Create business requirement documents, functional specifications, process flows, user stories, and acceptance criteria
• Collaborate with product owners, developers, QA teams, and operations teams throughout the project lifecycle
• Define and execute User Acceptance Testing (UAT) activities, potentially including test case creation, defect management, and results reporting
• Translate complex business strategy/vision or regulatory obligations into clear functional and technical requirements

Requirements

• Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
• 6+ years of business analysis and requirements management experience within Capital Markets or Financial Services
• Experience in agile tools e.g Jira and Confluence
• Understanding of trade and transaction lifecycles across different financial products/instruments
• Strong requirements gathering, analysis, and documentation skills
• Experience working within Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid delivery environments
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across all levels of an organisation
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
• Experience supporting UAT and business testing activities
• Ability to interpret complex data and business processes
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes
• Self-motivated, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously

Nice to have

• Experience in using AI tools during the SDLC process
• Experience in defining requirements to build AI tools/agents
• Knowledge of global regulatory reporting regimes, such as EMIR, MiFID II / MiFIR, SFTR, Dodd-Frank, CFTC, etc
• Experience using SQL for data analysis and investigation
• Exposure to Linux environment
