Customs Broker

C.H. Robinson is seeking a Customs Broker, responsible for the accurate and timely submission of customs entries for clearance processes as described in the C.H Robinson Customs procedures. In this role, you will further develop knowledge and understanding of regulatory requirements, refine customer service skills, utilize reporting tools, and possess an overall understanding of the supply chain process. You will ensure compliance and operational excellence representing both C.H. Robinson and our customers, with skills and expertise leading to further development within the organization.

Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities of this position consist of, but are not limited to, the following:

Maintain Operational Excellence

• Demonstrate mastery of customs brokerage standard operating procedures (SOPs) and best practices.
• Analyse and validate import and export documentation to ensure compliance with all New Zealand regulatory requirements.
• Prepare, review, and lodge Customs and biosecurity entries with theNew Zealand Customs Service (NZCS) andMinistry for Primary Industries (MPI).
• Classify goods using international tariff codes and determine applicable duties, GST, and regulatory requirements.
• Ensure all shipments comply with NZ Customs, MPI, and other government agency requirements.
• Liaise with customers, transport providers, Customs, MPI, and other stakeholders to facilitate timely clearance and delivery of cargo.
• Identify and resolve compliance issues that may result in shipment delays, inspections, or additional charges.
• Complete tariff classifications, customs valuations, and clearance activities accurately and within required timeframes.
• Maintain customer SOPs and ensure operational excellence through accuracy, compliance, and customer service.
• Operate customs brokerage systems includingExpedient and Microsoft Office applications.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and process optimisation.
  

Required Qualifications:

Required:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Minimum 2 years of Customs Brokerage experience
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of programs
  

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred:

• Minimum 2 years' experience in Customs Brokerage, Freight Forwarding, or International Trade.
• Strong knowledge ofNew Zealand Customs Service (NZCS) andMinistry for Primary Industries (MPI) regulations and processes.
• Completion, aCustoms Brokers and Freight Forwarders Federation (CBAFF) UUI/PIN qualification.
• Experience with tariff classification, customs valuation, and import/export compliance.
• Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication and customer service capabilities.
• Experience usingExpedient and Microsoft Office Suite.
