In 2020, G Mining Ventures (GMIN) was created to acquire direct ownership of projects and capitalize on the value uplift that successful mine development offers. In July 2024, GMIN has acquired the OKO West project. The OKO West Project is a new gold discovery in northwest Guyana. It is located south of the historical โOKOโ gold district, some 95 km west of Georgetown.
To ensure the achievement of this large-scale project, G Mining Ventures is looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of:
Assayer
The Assay Lab Assayer performs fire assay and associated production-assay work in accordance with approved methods, quality requirements, and site safety controls. The role is a hands-on technical production position responsible for accurate weighing, fluxing, fusion, pouring, cupellation, prill handling, and applicable assay finishes. When operationally required, the Assayer may also perform technician-level duties in other laboratory areas for which training, competency, and authorization have been completed. It is not a managerial or supervisory position and does not include crew scheduling, work allocation, performance management, or formal approval of analytical results.
Working Conditions
The Assayer works in a mining and mineral processing environment with a combination of laboratory work and the handling of hazardous materials. They are responsible for maintaining a safe work environment and performing precise testing procedures. The role involves exposure to plant equipment, noise, dust, varying weather conditions, high-temperature furnaces requiring strict adherence to health, safety and PPE requirements. Extended hours may be required to support production objectives and operational needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine fire-assay production work, including sample weighing, fluxing, mixing, fusion, pouring, cupellation, prill recovery, parting, gravimetric finish, or preparation for instrumental finish as applicable to the approved method.
- Operate fusion and cupellation furnaces, balances, hotplates, parting equipment, and other assigned fire-assay equipment in accordance with approved procedures and site safety requirements.
- Prepare and handle fluxes, lead-bearing materials, cupels, crucibles, parting solutions, and other fire-assay materials using approved methods and contamination-control practices.
- Complete assigned blanks, certified reference materials, duplicates, checks, and other quality-control samples and immediately report non-conforming or unusual results.
- Recognize and report abnormal fusion behavior, poor slag separation, cupellation problems, prill losses, contamination concerns, equipment issues, or other conditions that may affect assay quality.
- Perform assigned sample-preparation, wet-chemistry, instrumental-support, or other technician-level laboratory duties when operationally required, provided the employee has completed the required training, demonstrated competency, and is authorized for the assigned work. Assayers may therefore be temporarily reassigned outside fire assay when required by laboratory workload and staffing needs.
- Record sample, batch, QC, equipment, and result information accurately in approved worksheets, forms, LIMS, or other authorized systems.
- Perform routine operator inspections, cleaning, and basic troubleshooting of assigned fire-assay equipment within training and authorization; report defects and request maintenance support when repair or specialist intervention is required.
- Maintain clean and orderly fire-assay work areas and follow requirements for lead control, hot-work areas, chemical handling, waste segregation, housekeeping, and contamination prevention.
- Participate in shift handovers and communicate incomplete work, priority batches, abnormal conditions, equipment status, and safety concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
- Participate in required training, competency assessments, safety meetings, incident investigations, and continuous-improvement activities.
- Assist with stock checks and replenishment of fire-assay consumables such as fluxes, lead materials, cupels, crucibles, reagents, PPE, and other routine supplies.
