About Team:

Traffic Foundation builds the platforms that direct, protect and accelerate digital traffic for Walmart customers and associates. Our systems operate globally across content delivery networks, edge computing, traffic management and application delivery.

The CDN Platforms and Static Asset Optimization teams move digital experiences closer to customers through multi CDN delivery, edge computing and content optimization. Their work improves how web experiences, images, video and other static content are delivered while reducing origin demand and infrastructure cost.

The teams also build shared capabilities for high demand events and partner with application teams to improve Site Speed. Common observability and resiliency mechanisms help Walmart prepare for traffic growth, holiday events and provider or regional failures.

What will you do

• Lead the multi CDN strategy; Define how Walmart uses multiple CDN providers to improve performance, availability and capacity while preserving provider choice and commercial flexibility. Establish the strategy for traffic placement, provider qualification, automated failover and recovery.
• Shape edge compute interoperability; Create a consistent way to build, test and operate capabilities across runtimes such as Akamai EdgeWorkers, Cloudflare Workers and Fastly Compute. Use common contracts and selectively adopt standards such as WinterTC, WebAssembly and WASI where they offer practical interoperability.
• Set the direction for Static Asset Optimization; Lead the platforms that optimize and deliver images, video and other static content. Improve customer performance and content quality while reducing bandwidth, origin demand and infrastructure cost.
• Lead platforms for high demand experiences; Set the direction for capabilities that manage exceptional demand, protect constrained inventory and prevent dependent systems from being overwhelmed. Evolve Draw and Queuing as shared platforms that can support major events across markets and business units.
• Make Site Speed a shared engineering outcome; Establish clear measures based on real customer experience. Partner with application teams to identify and prioritize improvements across content delivery, caching and edge execution.
• Build observability across the delivery path; Create a consistent view of traffic and experience health from the customer edge through origin systems. Help teams detect degradation early, isolate the responsible layer and understand customer impact.
• Own platform resiliency and readiness; Define standards for capacity planning, fault isolation, rollback, automated recovery and disaster recovery testing. Ensure the platforms are ready for holiday traffic, sudden demand and provider, regional or origin failures.
• Improve the platform experience; Make CDN, edge computing and asset optimization capabilities easier to adopt through clear APIs, automation, onboarding and operational controls. Reduce the specialist knowledge required for product teams to use these platforms safely.
• Guide platform economics and provider strategy; Use demand forecasts, performance data and unit costs to guide architecture and investment decisions. Build strategic relationships with technology providers and influence their roadmaps based on Walmart’s needs.

What you will bring :

You are an experienced engineering leader who can connect platform strategy, technical direction, operations and talent into measurable business outcomes.

• Platform leadership: Experience setting multiyear direction for globally distributed, business critical platforms and translating it into clear roadmaps and investments.
• Technical judgment: Strong understanding of multi CDN architecture, edge computing, web performance, static content delivery and distributed systems. You can guide complex architecture decisions while enabling senior engineers to retain technical ownership.
• Operational leadership: A record of operating platforms with demanding availability and performance requirements. You bring discipline to observability, incident response and recovery readiness.
• Product mindset: Experience building infrastructure as a product, with simple onboarding, clear interfaces and measurable outcomes for customers and engineering teams.
• Business judgment: The ability to use performance, reliability, demand and cost data to make investment and provider decisions.
• Partnership and influence: Experience aligning product, infrastructure, security and business leaders around shared outcomes. You can also build productive relationships with external technology providers.
• People leadership: A strong record of developing engineering managers and senior technical talent, clarifying accountability and building succession across teams and locations.
• Communication: The ability to explain complex technical choices clearly, influence senior leaders and make thoughtful decisions when the path is not obvious.
• Curiosity and adaptability: An interest in emerging standards, AI and new platform capabilities, combined with the judgment to adopt them when they solve a meaningful problem.
