Assistant Director of Program Evaluation

Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) — a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York — seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-aligned Assistant Director of Program Evaluation with our Research & Evaluation Department.

TheAssistant Director will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children’s Zone: to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty through comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that creates opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life.

TheAssistant Director will join our Research & Evaluation team that supports the implementation and maintenance of evaluation systems that promote efficient program information collection and data dissemination within the organization and with our external partners. Working closely with the Director and the Managing Director of Research and Evaluation, the Assistant Director of Program Evaluation is a key member of the department’s management team. The AD will assist senior Research & Evaluation staff in establishing systems, schedules, and templates for tracking the progress of programs across the organization in relation to key indicators. Critically, the AD ensures that existing program data is organized and presented in a format that helps program leads, senior HCZ staff, and external funders understand their impact.

• Master’s Degree in Public Health, Health Policy, Economics, STEM, Public Policy, Sociology, Psychology, or a related major/field

Who You Are

• 5 - 7+ years of progressive experience in program evaluation, research, or performance measurement, including at least 3 years in a leadership, supervisory, or project management role.
• Proven ability to design, implement, and manage evaluation frameworks, logic models, and data collection systems that drive organizational learning and impact.
• Strong expertise in quantitative and qualitative research methods, advanced statistical analysis, and use of data visualization/reporting tools (e.g., R, Stata, SPSS, Tableau).
• Demonstrated success in managing complex, cross-functional projects, ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality evaluation outputs.
• Exceptional written, verbal, and visual communication skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights for diverse audiences (executives, funders, community stakeholders).
• Experience fostering collaboration across departments and building partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion with experience integrating culturally responsive and equitable evaluation practices.
• Familiarity with community-based research, youth development, or social impact programs preferred.
• Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills with a demonstrated track record of innovation and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Do

• Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of program evaluation frameworks, ensuring alignment with HCZ’s mission and strategic goals.
• Manage, mentor, and support a team of associates and analysts, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and professional growth.
• Oversee the collection, cleaning, and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and compliance with organizational data standards.
• Collaborate with senior leadership, program directors, and external stakeholders to design evaluation plans and identify key performance indicators (KPIs) that drive decision-making.
• Develop dashboards, reports, and presentations that translate data into actionable insights for program improvement and strategic planning.
• Standardize and document evaluation processes and protocols to ensure consistency and scalability across multiple programs and initiatives.
• Facilitate cross-departmental collaboration to ensure alignment of data practices, support organizational learning, and drive collective impact.
• Identify opportunities for innovation in data collection, analysis, and reporting, leveraging technology and industry best practices.
• Lead capacity-building efforts, including training internal teams on evaluation methodologies, data literacy, and evidence-based decision-making.
• Ensure that evaluation projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget, while proactively addressing risks and barriers to success.
• Help prepare presentations to funders, other non-profit organizations, policymakers, academic audiences, community members, and staff

Schedule

• Monday - Friday: 9 AM - 5 PM

• Hybrid: 3 days in the office, 2 days remote
