POSITION SUMMARY:

The Military Outreach Specialist for the NYS DOH Increasing Training Capacity Grant is responsible for providing support to transitioning servicemembers, veterans and military spouses.  This position will serve as the primary contact point for this population. This role will help military personnel transition into civilian careers by delivering interview and resume-building training, while also equipping organizational leaders with the skills needed to effectively interview, hire, and onboard veteran candidates. Responsible to build recruitment pipelines and act as a liaison between military instillations, reserve/guard units, military affiliated organizations and St. Joseph’s College of Nursing.  This position will help guide military servicemembers and their spouses through credentialling, licensure, education benefits, and training pathways to ensure smooth transitions. This position will also support ELEVATE CNY-RN to continue to establish, maintain and support programs such as DoD Skillbridge, PaYS, Hiring our Heroes, and Career Skills program. The Military Outreach Specialist will partner internally on efforts such as recruitment marketing and branding as well as community events.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:Bachelor’s degree required.  Experience in workforce development and military recruitment is highly desirable.

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, SKILLS, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

The skills desired of the Military Outreach Specialistinclude:

Effective communications skills

Strong computer skills with experience managing a database

Ability to work independently and as part of an office team

Must be a self-starter, self-directed and problem solver

Ability to analyze data and make recommendations

Additional considerations:

Must have a valid New York driver's license and good driving record

Ability to travel throughout state of New York

Ability to work some evenings and weekends

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS:Clinical, classroom and office settings.  Hazards include exposure to communicable diseases and risk of physical injury.  Exposure Class I.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Moderate physical activity.  Must be able to stand, walk, sit, lift and move recruiting material from office to car to venue. Manual dexterity is sufficient to manipulate equipment including computers. Visual/auditory acuity adequate to perform to interact with potential students, parents, academic advisors, guidance counselors, and others.

WORK CONTACT GROUP:Faculty,Administration, Governing Organization, Staff, Students, potential students, academic advisors, guidance counselors, academic partners, members of the lay community, regulatory and professional agencies, and others.      

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Military Outreach Specialist is expected to maintain open communication with Administration, colleagues, staff, potential students, PCTs, and military professionals to ensure they are receiving the support required to be successful. The Military Outreach Specialist will be required to perform the essential functions as listed in the job description.

Salary Range: $59,384 - $89,128

Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
