MRI Technologist

The MRI Technologist performs imaging procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. This position performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgement, with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed magnetic resonance imaging for diagnosis.

GENERALDUTIES

Provides clinical services according to radiology practice standards to ensure optimal departmentfunctions:

• Performs the technical aspects of MRI/MRA displaying quality andproficiency.
• Performs daily calibrations and records results as perprotocol.
• Selects appropriate coil to reduce noise, increase signal and maximizeresolution.
• Demonstrates job knowledge by selecting correct acquisitionparameters.
• Reviews physician orders with the radiologist to ensure the proper examination and diagnostic results are obtained asrequired.

Administers sound patient care practices according to department and hospital policies and procedures, to ensure the safety of thepatient:

• Accepts patients and assesses their condition to determine the proper handling and specialrequirements.
• Explains procedure to patients/families and answers any questions to ease anxiety and assure patientcooperation.
• Demonstrates the ability to recognize clinical and/or emergent problems that may interfere with exams and take appropriate action to resolve them and produce the most desirable outcome.
• Demonstrates safety and job knowledge in the administration of parenteral contrastagents.
• Obtains and reviews patient history screeningquestionnaire.
• Responds and follows up on critical testfindings.
• Acquires and evaluates patient lab values to make sure they are within normal limits (BUN, CR, Pregnancy, Glucose) whenapplicable.

Maintains equipment, exam rooms and work areas in a neat and safe condition, to ensure the safety of the patients andemployees:

• Checks and inspects the suite, equipment and accessories daily for physical or mechanical hazards. Troubleshoots malfunctions, immediately reports dangerous conditions to the appropriate person.
• Maintains work area in a clean orderly fashion.
• Checks stock supply levels, maintains supplies at par level and displays an effort in supply maintenance and utilization.
• Cleans and disinfectsequipment.
• Maintains supply of linen in the room.

Maintains quality control checks in accordance with policyrequirements:

• Participates in department QC and PI programs, follows up on alldeficiencies.
• Maintains proper sterile technique for procedures, practices aseptic techniques and always washes hands before and after each patient contact.
• Strictly adheres to the hospital policy on body substanceisolation.
• Always wears film badge while on duty, follows departmental procedures for badgeresults.

Completes ancillary tasks to ensure efficient and consistent departmentaloperations:

• Consistently, accurately and legibly records the required information on therequisition.
• Always pulls previous films, exams and reports, accurately records the required information on the film jacket and performs other file room duties as required.
• Charges for theprocedures.
• Performs other routine clerical duties asassigned.
• Inputs and verifies all data is sent and verified inPACS/RIS.

Demonstrates safety for patients, staff and self as outlined in department and hospital protocols and regulatory guidelines, to ensure the safety of the patients and staff:

• Recognizes emergent situations and responds appropriately. Calls codes asneeded.
• Observes and monitors patient's vital signs.
• Monitors medical equipment attached to the patient during the radiographicprocedure.

LICENSES ANDCERTIFICATIONS

• Required: Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (CPR, BLS) - American HeartAssociation
• Required:  ARMRIT (American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists) registry or ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists - R&MR) registry or registry eligible.
• Required: Magnetic Resonance Imaging Certification within 2 years ofhire
