BehavioralHealthSpecialistI(BHSI)–PositionSummary
UnderthedirectionoftheClinicalNurseManager(Inpatient),ProgramDirector(Partial),andUnitChargeRN,theBehavioralHealthSpecialistI(BHSI)providesdirectcare,safety,andtherapeuticsupporttochildrenandadolescentswithinaninterdisciplinarytreatmentteam.TheBHSIcontributestothestructureofthetherapeuticmilieuandisresponsibleforimplementing,observing,anddocumentingmilieuprogrammingunderthesupervisionofaRegisteredNurse.

KeyResponsibilities
A.MilieuManagement&DirectPatientCare
Maintain a safe and therapeutic environmentandactivelyengagewithassignedpatientsthroughouttheshift.
Participateindevelopingandimplementingmilieucareplansaccordingtounitpolicies.
Maintainanddocumentrequiredlevelsofpatientobservationeachshift.
Supportvisitingparentsandprovideinformationasdirectedbythetreatmentteam.
Supervisepatientsduringdailyroutinesandassistwithactivitiesofdailylivingandhygiene.
Identify,report,andhelpresolveactualorpotentialunitproblems.
Providetimelyverbalreportinganddocumentationfollowingcriticalincidents.
Completerequireddocumentation,includingincidentreportsandintakematerials.
Participateinrestraintdebriefings.
Carryoutdelegatedassignmentsandreportcompletionbeforeshiftchange.
Intervenetherapeuticallyindisruptiveorunsafesituations.
Maintainprofessionalboundariesatalltimes.

Supportthedevelopmentofatherapeuticalliancewithpatientsandfamiliesatadmission.
Assistwiththeseparationprocessandhelporientpatientstothehospitalenvironment.
DocumentobjectiveobservationswithineachshiftandcommunicatefindingstotheassignedRN.
Reviewmilieucareplansdailyandrecommendrevisionsbasedonobservations.
Communicatepatientcareplanstounitstaffandcollaboratewithinterdisciplinaryproviders.
Participateintreatmentteammeetings,rounds,patient‑specificdiscussions,andhand‑offreports.
DocumentsignificantobservationsinthemedicalrecordandKardexinatimelymanner.
Shareknowledgeandexperiencewithcolleaguesthroughformalandinformallearningopportunities.
Adaptcareapproachestomeetthedevelopmentalneedsofdiversechildrenandadolescents.
D.TherapeuticProgramming&BehavioralSupport

MinimumQualifications
Education
BaccalaureatedegreeinaHumanServicesfieldpreferred.
EquivalenteducationandexperiencemaybeconsideredatthediscretionoftheHiringManager.
Knowledge&Skills
Demonstratedabilityandwillingnesstolearnrole‑relatedskills.
Knowledgenecessarytoprovidedevelopmentallyandculturallyinformedcareacrossthelifespan.
SafetyCareCertificationrequired(orabilitytoobtain).
Abilitytoremaincalmandmakesounddecisionsduringcrisissituations.
