UnderthedirectionoftheClinicalNurseManager(Inpatient),ProgramDirector(Partial),andUnitChargeRN,theBehavioralHealthSpecialistI(BHSI)providesdirectcare,safety,andtherapeuticsupporttochildrenandadolescentswithinaninterdisciplinarytreatmentteam.TheBHSIcontributestothestructureofthetherapeuticmilieuandisresponsibleforimplementing,observing,anddocumentingmilieuprogrammingunderthesupervisionofaRegisteredNurse.

KeyResponsibilities

A.MilieuManagement&DirectPatientCare

  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic environmentandactivelyengagewithassignedpatientsthroughouttheshift.

  • Participateindevelopingandimplementingmilieucareplansaccordingtounitpolicies.

  • Maintainanddocumentrequiredlevelsofpatientobservationeachshift.

  • Supportvisitingparentsandprovideinformationasdirectedbythetreatmentteam.

  • Supervisepatientsduringdailyroutinesandassistwithactivitiesofdailylivingandhygiene.

  • Identify,report,andhelpresolveactualorpotentialunitproblems.

  • Providetimelyverbalreportinganddocumentationfollowingcriticalincidents.

  • Completerequireddocumentation,includingincidentreportsandintakematerials.

  • Participateinrestraintdebriefings.

  • Carryoutdelegatedassignmentsandreportcompletionbeforeshiftchange.

  • Intervenetherapeuticallyindisruptiveorunsafesituations.

  • Maintainprofessionalboundariesatalltimes.

B.Compliance,Training&ProfessionalStandards

  • AdheretoallHospital,Department,andProgrampoliciesandprocedures.

  • Attendpeerreview,staffmeetings,andrequiredtrainings.

    • CrisisManagement

    • CPR

  • Participateinongoingstaffdevelopment.

C.TreatmentPlanning&ClinicalCollaboration

  • Supportthedevelopmentofatherapeuticalliancewithpatientsandfamiliesatadmission.

  • Assistwiththeseparationprocessandhelporientpatientstothehospitalenvironment.

  • DocumentobjectiveobservationswithineachshiftandcommunicatefindingstotheassignedRN.

  • Reviewmilieucareplansdailyandrecommendrevisionsbasedonobservations.

  • Communicatepatientcareplanstounitstaffandcollaboratewithinterdisciplinaryproviders.

  • Participateintreatmentteammeetings,rounds,patient‑specificdiscussions,andhand‑offreports.

  • DocumentsignificantobservationsinthemedicalrecordandKardexinatimelymanner.

  • Shareknowledgeandexperiencewithcolleaguesthroughformalandinformallearningopportunities.

  • Adaptcareapproachestomeetthedevelopmentalneedsofdiversechildrenandadolescents.

MinimumQualifications

Education

  • BaccalaureatedegreeinaHumanServicesfieldpreferred.

  • EquivalenteducationandexperiencemaybeconsideredatthediscretionoftheHiringManager.

Knowledge&Skills

  • Demonstratedabilityandwillingnesstolearnrole‑relatedskills.

  • Knowledgenecessarytoprovidedevelopmentallyandculturallyinformedcareacrossthelifespan.

  • SafetyCareCertificationrequired(orabilitytoobtain).

  • Abilitytoremaincalmandmakesounddecisionsduringcrisissituations.

  • Abilitytoparticipateinphysicalmanagementofpatients,including:

    • Liftingupto50lbs

    • Reaching,grasping,bending,squatting,kneeling

    • Escortingcombativepatientsshortdistances

Pay Range:

$18.13-$29.90
