Part Time In-Home Reading Tutor (Special Education Experience Required) – Sayville, NY

A loving family in Sayville, NY is seeking an experienced, high-energy 1:1 Special Education Reading Tutor for their fun, smart, and active 3rd-grade boy. He has autism, OCD, and is partially verbal with evolving speech. The ideal candidate will use engaging, specialized techniques for partially verbal readers while integrating his passion for movement and mechanical concepts to encourage both literacy and overall communication.

Schedule:

• Saturdays: 1 to 2 hours between 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM EST
• Opportunity to tutor older sibling as well for additional hours

Family Specifications:

• Active, engaging household environment that values creative, hands-on learning.
• Supports interdisciplinary care, coordinating alongside the child's speech, occupational therapy, and ABA therapy teams.

Responsibilities:

• Provide dedicated 1:1 reading and math tutoring tailored to a 3rd-grade level.
• Utilize specialized literacy strategies suited for non-verbal or partially verbal learners with autism.
• Integrate movement and fine-motor/art-based activities to keep sessions fun, engaging, and supportive of OT goals.
• Incorporate the child's personal interests (trains, cars, mechanics, skateboarding, scooter, sports) into learning materials.
• Facilitate speech and functional communication development throughout literacy instruction.

Requirements:

• Special Education credentials or certifications.
• Extensive experience working with young children with autism and non-verbal/partially verbal communication needs.
• Ability to design interactive, movement-friendly lessons tailored to high-energy learners.

Preferred:

• Background or familiarity with OT-aligned educational techniques and multi-sensory reading programs.

Compensation:

• $35–$40 per hour
