Environmental Sustainability Officer (12 Month Maternity Cover)

About The Role

As Environmental Sustainability Officer, you will play a key role in helping Artifex achieve its environmental and sustainability ambitions while ensuring compliance with environmental legislation, standards and customer requirements.

Working closely with the HSES Director, site HSES Managers and leadership teams across the business, you will support the continuous improvement of environmental performance, management systems and sustainability initiatives. This is an opportunity to influence meaningful change, driving projects focused on energy efficiency, carbon reduction, sustainable transport, material reuse and waste reduction as part of our journey towards becoming a climate-neutral organisation. You will act as a trusted advisor, coach and champion for environmental sustainability across our UK operations.

Key Responsibilities

You will support the development and delivery of Artifex's environmental and sustainability strategy through robust management systems, auditing and continuous improvement activities. The role includes leading sustainability initiatives across energy, transport and material usage, managing environmental reporting and data, supporting ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 audits, and ensuring legal and customer requirements are effectively implemented.

You will facilitate sustainability committee meetings, drive corrective actions, maintain environmental documentation and legal registers, and provide guidance to management teams on best practice. Working collaboratively across sites, you will help embed a culture of compliance, accountability and continuous improvement while supporting the achievement of key sustainability objectives and performance targets.

About You

You will bring experience in environmental sustainability, environmental engineering or HSES roles within manufacturing, production or automotive environments. You will have a strong understanding of environmental management systems and relevant standards, including ISO 14001, with knowledge of ISO 50001 and environmental legislation highly desirable.

Organised and proactive, you are comfortable managing multiple priorities, analysing data and delivering improvement projects. You communicate confidently with stakeholders at all levels, combining strong influencing skills with a collaborative and supportive approach. Above all, you are passionate about sustainability, committed to continuous improvement, and motivated to make a genuine impact on environmental performance while helping colleagues succeed and grow.
