About the opportunity

The University of Sydney School of Dentistry (Sydney Dental School) is ranked amongst the top dental schools internationally and is one of the largest dental schools in Australia. It has campuses in the Sydney Dental Hospital (in inner-eastern Sydney), the Westmead Centre for Oral Health at Westmead Hospital (in western Sydney), the Nepean Centre for Oral Health (in western Sydney), the Campbelltown Hospital Dental Centre (in southwestern Sydney), and outreach service-based teaching is undertaken across the state of NSW.Ā 

We are seeking experienced dental practitioners to contribute to clinical teaching, student supervision and patient care within our undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

You will generally hold primary employment (including self-employment) outside the University in public or private health settings.Ā 

ThePractitioner in Dentistry Level B (Lecturer) roles are suited to General Dentists or Oral Health Therapists with relevant clinical experience. You will apply your clinical expertise to teach students the clinical skills required to meet competency requirements for completion of a degree leading to professional registration.

ThePractitioner inDentistry Level C (Senior Lecturer)roles are suited to Dental Specialists with extensive clinical expertise and clinical teaching experience. You will significantly contribute to clinical teaching and learning by applying your clinical knowledge in developing and implementing contemporary, relevant and best-practice clinical skills teaching to mainly specialist training programs.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

Level B:Ā Ā 

  • deliver high-quality clinical teaching and training to students in clinical settings

  • apply clinical expertise to support patient care while supervising pre-registration students, role modelling effective patient interaction and care

  • provide professional standards education, mentoring and guidance to support student development and professional registration requirements,

  • contribute to innovative clinical education practices to improve educational outcomes

  • contribute to assessment in clinical or simulation settings

  • engage constructively with student feedback and evaluations to enhance teaching practice

  • apply expertise in clinical practice to provide training and support to other staff on effective, innovative and contemporary clinical practice

  • appropriately represent the University in partner organisations, clinical settings, and the community, maintaining productive links between the university and clinical or industry partners

  • comply with Local Health Districts mandatory training and requirements

  • undertake other duties and contribute to projects appropriate within the classification level as required.  

In addition, for Level C:Ā 
Ā 

  • apply specialist or advanced clinical expertise to support high-quality patient care while supervising pre-registration and specialist students

  • mentor and guide Level 2 Professional Practitioners and, where required, technical support staff

  • develop and strengthen relationships between the University, the profession, and clinical and industry partners

About you

Level BĀ 
Ā 

  • APHRA registeredĀ 

  • Bachelor’s or higher degrees in relevant fieldĀ 

  • qualified dental practitioner with more than 3 years clinical experience

  • demonstrated understanding of contemporary clinical best-practice  

  • significant clinical experience with proven ability to apply expertise and knowledge to inform clinical teaching and supervision

  • experience in clinical or simulated teaching and learning in a tertiary environment (or clinical placement) (preferred)

  • demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a large team, communicate effectively, and engage in reflective practice to support continuous improvement

In addition, for Level CĀ 

  • APHRA registeredĀ dental specialist

  • a dental specialist with an extensive clinical experience who have developed specialist or advanced skills and competencies

You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this employment to be eligible to apply. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.
