As the Lead Technical Accountant – Revenue & Deal Advisory, you will serve as a strategic subject-matter expert guiding the business through cutting-edge commercial arrangements, product launches, and complex deal structuring. Acting as an accounting expert, you will advise and support cross-functional partners—including product area controllership, finance, and legal—by analyzing technical accounting implications and evaluating non-standard contracts under various US GAAP topics (including ASC 606) to optimize agreement outcomes while ensuring compliance and safeguarding accounting integrity.

This dedicated strategic advisory and research role moves beyond routine month-end reporting, allowing you to shape commercial agreements at the front lines of business development. You will work with sophisticated, modern business models that offer intellectually stimulating accounting puzzles, while presenting technical positions directly to executive leadership, business partners, and external auditors. If you're into codification, architecting scalable revenue policies, and influencing business decisions before agreements are signed, this role offers exceptional visibility and executive impact.

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA) license.
• 7 years of accounting experience within Big 4 public accounting, national advisory firms, or a corporate technical accounting environment (or 5 years with an advanced degree).
• Experience with technical accounting memos and policy documents.
• Experience in US GAAP, ASC 606, and revenue recognition principles.

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience in a National Office/Accounting Consultation group, or background with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) or Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB).
• Experience advising commercial deal desk, sales, or legal teams on contract structuring for SaaS, software licensing, multi-element arrangements, or usage-based billing models.
• Exceptional communication and storytelling skills with the ability to articulate intricate technical guidance to senior executives and non-finance partners.
• Strong project leadership skills with the ability to prioritize competing high-value deals and initiatives in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Engage early with controllers and cross-functional stakeholders as commercial deals and new product offerings take shape, delivering technical accounting analysis on key topics, including customer contracts under revenue standard.
• Conduct in-depth US GAAP research (revenue, Inventory and other areas) and acts as a key business partner on all complex accounting questions.
• Assess technical accounting implications for strategic initiatives across various Google product lines.
• Train non-finance partners, leadership, and product teams on commercial guardrails and core revenue accounting principles.
• Lead technical discussions with external auditors and the product area controllers on key contract evaluations and SEC disclosures.
