The NPI Camera Engineer supports the transfer and introduction of infrared camera systems into production at the Orlando facility. This includes transferring existing camera products, technical knowledge, and manufacturing capabilities from established production sites, as well as supporting the development and launch of new camera products.
The NPI Camera Engineer serves as a technical engineering resource for camera assembly, integration, optical alignment, calibration, testing, troubleshooting, and manufacturing process development. This role works across sites and functions to capture and transfer technical knowledge, develop production-ready processes, support prototype and pilot builds, and ensure both transferred and newly developed camera products are manufacturable, repeatable, and ready for production.
Responsibilities:
Camera Assembly, Integration, & Test
· Serve as the primary technical engineering resource for infrared camera products progressing through site transfer or new product introduction.
· Support assembly, integration, optical alignment, calibration, testing, and troubleshooting of infrared camera systems and subassemblies.
· Develop technical knowledge of existing and newly developed camera products, including critical product characteristics, performance requirements, manufacturing processes, and test methods.
· Troubleshoot assembly, integration, and test issues during transfer, prototype, pilot, qualification, and production builds.
· Assist with development and validation of assembly fixtures, alignment tooling, and test equipment.
· Support environmental, functional, performance, and acceptance testing activities.
Product Transfer & Knowledge Transfer
· Work with engineers, technicians, and subject matter experts across sites to capture and transfer product and process knowledge to Orlando.
· Capture established camera assembly, alignment, calibration, test, and troubleshooting methods and translate that knowledge into controlled production documentation and training materials.
· Evaluate differences in equipment, tooling, personnel, materials, suppliers, and facility capabilities between the established and receiving sites.
· Identify and resolve technical gaps and risks required to establish documented, repeatable, production-ready camera processes in Orlando.
· Support hands-on training and qualification of Orlando manufacturing personnel.
New Product Introduction (NPI)
· Coordinate prototype, engineering, pilot, qualification, and pre-production builds.
· Develop and maintain manufacturing readiness checklists, release packages, and production handoff documentation.
· Support stage-gate reviews and product readiness assessments.
· Track technical issues, risks, decisions, and action items throughout product development.
· Support transition of new products from Design Engineering into Manufacturing.
Manufacturing Process Development & Readiness
· Develop and validate manufacturing processes for transferred and newly developed camera products.
· Create and maintain assembly instructions, travelers, routings, test procedures, and work instructions.
· Define tooling, fixtures, equipment, metrology, and test requirements.
· Establish process controls and ensure materials, equipment, documentation, training, and quality requirements are complete before production release.
· Support process validation, first-article activities, production qualification, repeatability verification, and formal handoff to Production.
Design for Manufacturability & Testability
· Work closely with Design, Optical, Mechanical, Electrical, and Test Engineering teams to improve manufacturability and testability.
· Review drawings, specifications, Bills of Material, interfaces, tolerances, and test requirements for production readiness.
· Identify product design risks affecting performance, assembly repeatability, testing, quality, cost, schedule, or production scalability.
· Recommend design or process changes that simplify assembly, alignment, calibration, testing, and inspection.
· Participate in design reviews and engineering change reviews.
Technical Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement
· Evaluate manufacturing yield, test results, production efficiency, and quality performance during transfer and NPI builds.
· Conduct root cause investigations involving assembly, integration, alignment, calibration, and test issues.
· Implement corrective actions and verify their effectiveness.
· Identify opportunities to improve throughput, yield, cost, product quality, and process repeatability.
· Support Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Cross-Functional Support
· Collaborate with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Production, Quality, Supply Chain, Program Management, and Operations across sites.
· Coordinate material, supplier, engineering-change, and production-launch readiness during product transfer and introduction.
· Support ERP/MRP and PLM data accuracy including Bills of Material, routings, revisions, and manufacturing documentation.
· Communicate technical status, risks, build results, and unresolved issues to project stakeholders.
· Participate in engineering and manufacturing improvement projects.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related STEM discipline
· 2-5 years of engineering experience supporting product development, manufacturing, NPI, or production environments
· Hands-on engineering experience supporting the assembly, integration, testing, or troubleshooting of complex electro-optical, imaging, or similarly multidisciplinary products
· Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, Bills of Material, and technical test requirements
· Understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles
