As a Heavy Equipment Operator, you turn mine plans into moved earth: overburden stripped on schedule, ore and aggregates loaded cleanly, and pits, quarries, and reclamation areas left safer than you found them. This is hands-on work that decides whether a client’s day runs or stalls. We hire operators who treat production, people, and the ground with the same care.

Performance Objectives

• Run assigned excavators, loaders, dozers, and haul units to hit daily load, haul, and excavation targets without sacrificing grade, slope, or dig quality.
• Complete pre-shift inspections and report defects before they stop a machine, keeping your fleet available for the shift plan.
• Place material to survey and supervisor marks so crushing, screening, and downstream crews receive the right rock, in the right place, on time.
• Work inside blast, traffic, and exclusion controls so every shift ends with zero recordable incidents and no uncontrolled spills or ground failures on your pattern.
• Cut idle time and rework by coordinating with the foreman, drill and blast, and haul fleet so trucks cycle and faces stay productive.
• Finish shift notes on quantities, delays, and ground conditions so mine planning can adjust the next day’s dig without guessing.
• Support reclamation and specialty earthworks by shaping slopes, drainage, and final grade to the approved plan.

Environment & Resources

You will work on active surface mines, quarries, and heavy-civil sites across Turner’s contract-mining footprint, reporting to the site supervisor or project foreman. Crews are small enough that your judgment shows up in the daily plan and large enough that you are never the only set of eyes on a face. You will operate company or client equipment maintained to a defined standard, with fuel, wear parts, and field support staged for the job. Safety systems, radio protocols, and site-specific ground-control rules are part of the work, not an add-on. Schedules follow production—including early starts, weather windows, and rotating shifts—with clear expectations set before you step into the cab.

Essential Qualifications

• Proven seat time operating excavators, wheel loaders, dozers, or haul trucks in mining, quarry, aggregates, or heavy earthwork—not just a license on paper.
• Ability to read grade stakes, basic mine maps, and supervisor instructions and translate them into accurate cuts, fills, and load placement.
• Habit of thorough pre-use inspections and clear defect reporting that keeps equipment in service.
• Working knowledge of pit traffic, spotting, berms, and exclusion zones, with a record of safe operation around people and blasts.
• Valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain required MSHA or site certifications; willingness to work the production schedule the project demands.
• Clear radio communication and the discipline to log production, delays, and ground conditions at the end of every shift.
