Role Title: Senior Engineer â Verification & Validation Delivery (Electrical)
We are RollsâRoyce SMR and we are doing something that has never been done before. We are revolutionising an industry. This is a onceâinâaâcareer opportunity for people excited by a major engineering challenge and the legacy it will create.
About the Team:
The Development Engineering organisation is accountable for demonstrating that the RollsâRoyce SMR power station design meets its objectives and requirements.
Through verification and validation activities, testing, demonstration programmes, qualification activities and engineering analysis, the team develops, commissions, reviews and integrates the evidence required to support design substantiation and delivery. The Verification & Validation (V&V) Delivery team provides independent oversight of this evidence, ensuring that engineering requirements are met through robust, traceable and auditable verification strategies.
About the Role:
As a Senior Engineer â Verification & Validation Delivery (Electrical), you will lead the verification and validation of complex electrical power systems across the RollsâRoyce SMR power station.
This role is focused on the independent planning, review and assessment of verification evidence. Whilst previous experience in a dedicated V&V role would be beneficial, it is not essential. What is important is the ability to assess whether electrical requirements, engineering methods, analyses, tests and evidence are technically robust and sufficient to demonstrate compliance.
Initially, you will focus on electrical generation, distribution and essential power systems. This may include HV and LV power networks, transformers, switchgear, protection systems, cables, UPS systems, battery systems, standby generation, power quality assessments and electrical system studies.
Working closely with electrical system owners, analysts, safety specialists, component teams and suppliers, you will develop verification strategies, define acceptance criteria, identify evidence gaps and make clear, defensible compliance judgements. You will also support technical governance activities, provide mentoring and perform independent technical reviews.
Weâll Need You To:
- Develop and own verification and validation strategies for complex electrical systems, components and capabilities
- Translate electrical and safety requirements into verification activities, acceptance criteria and evidence requirements
- Review electrical engineering analyses and studies, including:
- Load flow studies
- Short circuit studies
- Protection coordination assessments
- Motor starting studies
- Voltage and frequency performance assessments
- Harmonic and power quality studies
- Reliability and fault response assessments
- Define objectives and requirements for tests, demonstrations, inspections, analytical evaluations and similarity assessments
- Act as an intelligent customer, challenging assumptions, methodologies, input data, model suitability, test coverage and evidence quality
- Assess evidence against requirements and produce clear compliance judgements
- Identify verification gaps, technical risks, assumptions and dependencies
- Support verification of engineering and safety claims
- Produce technical reports suitable for engineering governance and regulatory engagement
- Manage interfaces across Electrical, C&I, Mechanical, Civil, Safety, Commissioning and Supply Chain teams
- Perform independent technical reviews and technical checks
- Mentor engineers and support the continuous improvement of V&V capability
Key Skills Required:
We know thereâs no such thing as the âperfectâ candidate. If you meet around 75% of the criteria below, weâd love to hear from you:
Essential Experience
- Degree qualified, or equivalent substantial experience, in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems or a closely related discipline
- Significant experience in the design, analysis, testing, commissioning, operation, assurance or verification of HV and/or LV electrical power systems
- Strong technical knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
- Electrical generation and distribution
- Transformers
- Switchgear
- Protection systems
- Cable systems
- UPS and battery systems
- Essential power supplies
