Purpose
PurposeThe Network Engineer II implements, configures, and supports enterprise network infrastructure across core and branch locations, ensuring reliable connectivity, strong performance, and a sound security posture. This role performs hands-on troubleshooting and root cause analysis, supports the deployment of network and security solutions, and uses automation and AI-driven tools to improve operational efficiency while maintaining accurate documentation and providing day-to-day support for network and firewall issues.
Focus & Scope
Essential duties and responsibilities, i.e. those which are basic, necessary, and an integral part of the job, are indicated below:
- Implement, configure, and support enterprise wired and wireless network infrastructure across core and branch locations to ensure reliable connectivity and strong performance.
- Perform troubleshooting and root cause analysis on network, security, and firewall-related issues, implementing corrective actions and escalating complex problems as needed.
- Configure and maintain remote connectivity solutions, VPN infrastructure, and ISP connections to support secure and reliable access for distributed users and locations.
- Implement system enhancements that improve network reliability, security posture, and overall performance while aligning with business objectives and industry best practices.
- Maintain network hardware and software currency by ensuring appropriate security patches, firmware updates, and configuration standards are consistently applied.
- Monitor network health through performance metrics and diagnostics, recommending and implementing solutions to improve security, performance, and cost efficiency.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation including network diagrams, standard operating procedures, and configuration guidelines to support consistent operations.
- Stay current with emerging cybersecurity threats, vendor product updates, and industry best practices to proactively address vulnerabilities and leverage new capabilities.
- Use AI-driven tools and automation technologies to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual effort in routine network management tasks.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to provide first-line response for network issues, ensuring timely resolution and minimal business impact.

Role Qualifications & Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, MIS, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.
- Professional certifications such as the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) preferred; equivalent certifications or demonstrated experience also considered.
Experience and Industry Expertise:
- Minimum of 4 to 6 years of direct hands-on experience in enterprise networking, including configuring, operating, and supporting WAN and LAN infrastructures, routing and switching platforms, firewalls, and network management tools.
Specific Job Requirements:
- Solid hands-on proficiency with Cisco infrastructure (switches, routers, voice gateways, ASA/Firepower firewalls, FMC, Unified Communications, VPN, Umbrella, wireless access points) and the Fortinet ecosystem (FortiGate, FortiNAC, FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer).
- Strong working understanding of core networking protocols and technologies including TCP/IP, NAT, DMVPN, VPN, DNS, SNMP, EIGRP, RADIUS, DHCP, IPSec, SSL, 802.1x, and VoIP.
- Working knowledge of wireless technologies including 802.11 standards, RF fundamentals, LTE/5G, and satellite connectivity.
- Exposure to or hands-on support of Network Access Control, Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA), SASE, SSL/TLS decryption, and microsegmentation solutions.
- Familiarity with cloud networking concepts, connectivity, and security in enterprise environments, including SD-WAN technologies.
- Proficiency in network monitoring, performance management, and traffic analysis platforms including SIEM, NetFlow, and Syslog.
- Interest in or some exposure to applying AI and automation in network management, security analytics, and routine policy tasks.
- Working knowledge of network automation and scripting using common scripting languages, automation frameworks, and APIs.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365, Entra Active Directory, Intune, and Security products.
- Strong problem analysis skills with the ability to contribute practical, cost-effective solutions that balance technical requirements with business needs.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to work effectively with vendors, consultants, and technology partners to support and deliver network solutions.
- Good organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results under deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.

Equipment Used, Physical Demands, and Work Environment
Equipment Used:
- General office equipment, telephone, automobile, personal protective equipment (i.e. safety glasses, hearing protection) when visiting plants.
- Physical: Sitting for long periods of time working on the computer or attending meetings. Job site visits require walking on uneven ground, steep slopes, and exposure to extreme temperature and/or humidity. Some lifting of materials and equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Work Environment: Typical office environment with adequate temperatures and lighting, low levels of noise. Demands of meeting tight deadlines. Exposed to the conditions of job sites which can include loud noise, dust, fumes, and extreme weather conditions prevalent at the time. May work various hours, including early mornings, dusk or evenings.
BASE SALARY RANGE:
$110,833.00 - $155,167.00
The range displayed reflects the range the company reasonable expects to pay for the position. The actual base salary is subject to variation due to the role, level, geographic location, relevant education, training, or experience, among other factors.
