What you'll do...
Role summary:As the Director of Data Science, you will lead the development and deployment of advanced analytical models and data strategies that drive business value across multiple domains. This role requires expertise in operations research, machine learning, data visualization, and coding to translate complex business challenges into actionable insights. You will guide teams in delivering scalable solutions, ensuring data quality, and aligning initiatives with organizational objectives. Collaborating cross-functionally, you will influence decision-making through compelling data storytelling and foster continuous innovation to support Walmart’s strategic goals.
About the team:
The Supply Chain Strategy team at Walmart leads long-term network planning using data-driven approaches, advanced modeling, and cross-functional collaboration. The team evaluates strategic locations, capacity, inventory flows, transportation, and capital investments. Working closely with Operations, Finance, and Technology, they develop scalable analytical frameworks leveraging Python, SQL, optimization, simulation, and AI. Their insights guide enterprise decisions on asset strategy, capacity expansion, fulfillment design, network evolution, customer speed, operating costs, and capital deployment. This enables Walmart to optimize its supply chain efficiently and deliver sustained value across the business.
What you'll do:
- Lead the development and deployment of advanced data science solutions aligned with business strategies.
- Oversee coding, testing, and validation of machine learning models to ensure accuracy and robustness.
- Translate complex business requirements into actionable data strategies and technical initiatives.
- Guide data source identification, quality assessment, and integration for scalable analytics.
- Mentor, manage and develop data science teams, fostering technical expertise and innovation.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to deliver insights that drive operational improvements and business value.
- Monitor model performance and implement lifecycle management practices to sustain solution effectiveness.
What you'll bring:
- Extensive experience in data science, machine learning algorithms, and advanced analytical modeling techniques.
- Proficiency in programming languages including Python, SQL, and Java for code development, testing, and deployment.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to translate complex data insights into actionable strategies aligned with organizational goals.
- Expertise in data strategy, data quality assessment, and identifying suitable data sources for scalable solutions.
- Proven leadership skills in mentoring teams, managing projects, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively to stakeholders and influence decision-making.

The annual salary range for this position is $130,000.00 - $260,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
