Required Qualifications:

• Applicants must hold a Masters or Ph.D. in Engineering Physics, Engineering, Applied Science or a related field, or equivalent experience and qualifications.
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• An M.S., Ph.D., or other appropriate terminal degree, or ABD status, in Engineering or a related field at the time of appointment (August 10 for fall or January 10 for spring).
• Previous academic teaching experience.

Conditions of Employment:

• This position is also not eligible for work visa sponsorship.
• This is a part-time position restricted to the term to which it is assigned and hired and is not eligible for benefits.
• The position may require additional hours beyond the typical work week, including occasional evenings, weekends, or overnight work as needed to meet operational requirements.
• As part-time exempt employees, adjuncts are subject to the limitations of the Virginia Manpower Control Program. Total hours worked may not exceed an average of 29 hours per week over a twelve-month period beginning May 1 each year.
• Total adjunct work hours for part-time employment from May 1 through April 30 may not exceed 1,500 hours, generally equating to up to 14 credit hours for fall/spring and up to 6 for summer, not to exceed 18 credit hours for the year.
• Adjuncts maintain an in-person presence for the duration of their appointment.  Remote teaching opportunities are rare and subject to approval.

Appointment Details:

Appointments are limited to a specified term and may include the following instructional sessions:

• Summer Session 1: May 26 – June 26* 

• Summer Session 2: June 29 – July 31*  (expected contract effective date:  June 25)

• Summer Session 3: May 26 – July 31*

• Fall: August 10 – January 9

• Spring: January 10 – May 24

 *Summer Session Terms are subject to vary each year
