LCSW/MSW ER/ICU

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Social Worker MSW/LCSW is a clinician responsible for social work services for patients in various units of the Medical Center as well as serves in a consultative role to staff on the units in the medical center whenever needed for patient care. The Social Worker MSW/LCSW works as part of the interdisciplinary team caring/assisting patients and families to cope with plans and decisions that need to be made before, during and after hospitalization.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES: 

• Provides individual and/or group counseling/therapy to patients and/ or their families. 

• Supervises and trainsgraduate level social work students and other students whenindicated and approved by theDirector of Social Work. 

• Provides diagnostic evaluations and psycho-social assessments. 

• Provides referrals and/or follow-up services. 

• Collaborate with clinical interdisciplinary team infacilitating continuing care plans. 

• Provide crisis prevention when needed to patients in various units of the Medical Center. 

• Provides counseling for patients, family and friends wheneverindicated at time of diagnosis, regards adjustment to illness, the emotional impact of diagnosis, and changes inlifestyle. 

• Offers continuity by maintaining a supportive relationshiptopatient andfamily throughoutcourse of illness. 

• On occasions when it isindicated, the social worker will counsel and supportpatients and otherfamily in bereavement. 

• The social worker will provide case management for patients. This will include resource findings, concrete services asindicated and will often involve referrals to community agencies andassistance in obtaining financial aid. 

• Provides documentation for social work activity inpatient'srecord on a regular andtimely basis. 

• Consults with members of the medical center teamin regard to the psycho-social needs of patients. Participates in staff in-service. 

• The social worker leads or co-leads a support group for patients and/or family members whenappropriate. 

• Participates where possible in community organizations relevant to the population. 

• Makes a psycho-social assessment of as manyhigh-risk clinicpatients as time allows.  

• The SocialWorkerMSW/LCSWwill also see patients at time of crisis and willassist where possible in cases of need for concrete services. The social worker will see any patient wishing to placetheir baby for adoption, referring them to theappropriate agency. 

• Assess the discharge needs of all patients admitted to their respectivedepartment assignment. 

• Performs other duties as assigned. 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

REQUIREDEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

• Master’s Degree in Social Work and0-2 years of experience working withpatients and families who are in crisis; or equivalent combination of education and experience.   

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• 1-2 yearsof experience with patients with major trauma, infectious disease, and/or emotional upset. 

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

• Current Licensed Clinical Social Work in the state ofMassachusetts 

CERTIFICATIONS,LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS PREFERRED:

• LICSW preferred 

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSAs):

• Ability to workwith patients and families who are in crisis.  

Compensation Range:

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer.
