Role Scope & Distinction:
Batch Processing & EOD Operations
· Execute EOD/SOD cycles: Run and manage End-of-Day (EOD) and Start-of-Day (SOD) batch processing schedules.
· Scheduler management: Use workload automation tools (e.g., Control-M, Dollar Universe, Automic, JS7 JobScheduler) to track batch job streams.
· Batch troubleshooting: Analyze log files to resolve failed batch jobs, stuck processes, or data dependency issues.
· Health checks: Perform routine morning health checks to ensure the platform is ready for global trading desks.
· Dependency management: Understand and monitor upstream and downstream dependencies between batch jobs, interfaces, and data feeds (e.g., market data imports, accounting extractions, FTP processes) to prevent cascading failures.
· Data validation: Run basic SQL checks or verification scripts post-batch to confirm data completeness, such as checking that feeders and extractions completed successfully.
· Recovery and rerun: Follow documented recovery procedures to rerun failed or skipped batch steps, including individual script reruns, without impacting the rest of the sequence.
· Batch performance tracking: Monitor batch run durations and flag any significant deviations from expected timelines to the support lead or L2 team.
Reporting and Documentation
· Shift handover reports: Prepare clear end-of-shift handover notes documenting open issues, completed tasks, and pending items for the incoming team.
· Incident reports: Write post-incident summaries for recurring or high-impact failures, contributing to root cause analysis and prevention efforts.
· Process documentation: Help maintain and improve standard operating procedures (SOPs) for batch processing, health checks, and common troubleshooting steps.
Required Technical Skills
· Operating Systems: Navigation skills in Linux/Unix environments and command-line interfaces.
· Scripting: Ability to read and execute basic Shell (Bash) or Perl scripts used in batch automation.
· Database and SQL: Proficiency in writing basic SQL queries (Oracle or Sybase) to check table status, verify batch data, or investigate data discrepancies.
· Scheduling Tools: Hands-on experience with enterprise schedulers like Control-M, Dollar Universe, JS7 JobScheduler, or Tidal.
· Monitoring Tools: Familiarity with monitoring frameworks such as ITRS Geneos, Grafana, Splunk, or Nagios.
· Incident Management Tools: Working knowledge of ITSM tools such as ServiceNow or Jira for logging, tracking, and managing incidents.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills
· Experience with Python scripting for automation or log parsing.
· Knowledge of ITIL framework and incident management best practices.
---
Soft Skills and Core Competencies
· Shifts and flexibility: Willingness to work in shifts (including night shifts, weekends, and public holidays) to support global operations 24/7.
· Communication: Clear verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with end users, L1/L2/L3 teams, and management during incidents.
· Attention to detail: Ability to carefully review logs, error messages, and batch outputs to accurately identify root causes.
· Problem solving: Logical and structured approach to troubleshooting, able to work through issues step by step under time pressure.
· Team collaboration: Comfortable working with cross-functional teams including developers, business analysts, DBAs, and infrastructure teams.
· Ownership and follow-through: Takes responsibility for open issues, follows up until resolution, and does not let things fall through the cracks.
