Job Description
Are you an experienced people leader who enjoys supporting teams, driving performance and stepping into new challenges?
At Boots, being an Assistant Manager means creating a team and environment that customers and patients trust, somewhere they feel welcome, looked after and want to come back to. Guided by our purpose, With You. For Life., you'll play a key role in bringing that to life, supporting your team to deliver care that really makes a difference to customers and colleagues in the moments that matter.
This is a unique opportunity to join our Norwich area as a development opportunity. Rather than being based in a single store from day one, you'll initially work across multiple Boots stores in Norwich, gaining experience in different locations, teams and customer environments while developing your leadership capability and understanding of the wider business.
You'll spend your first months supporting teams across:
- Norwich Chapelfield
- Norwich Castle Quarter
- Norwich Riverside Retail Park
- Norwich Longwater Retail Park
- Norwich London Street
By working across multiple locations, you'll gain valuable exposure to different store formats, teams and operational challenges, helping you build the breadth of experience needed to become a successful Boots leader.
Following successful completion of your probation period, you'll be based at our Norwich Chapelfield store, one of our larger and more complex locations. As future vacancies arise across the area, you'll have the opportunity to move into a permanent Assistant Manager position within one of our Norwich stores.
This role is ideal for an experienced manager who enjoys variety, can quickly build relationships with new teams and is confident taking ownership of store performance and operations. You'll play an important role in supporting stores across the area and may be required to lead smaller stores in the absence of the Store Manager, ensuring customers, patients and colleagues continue to receive the very best experience.
As this is a multi-site role, you'll need flexibility to travel regularly between stores and have access to your own transport.
What you'll be doing
As Assistant Manager, you'll report into the Store Manager and get stuck in on the shop floor, coaching and supporting your teams and role modelling how great care and strong commercial performance go together.
You will:
- Lead teams to deliver strong performance while providing great care to customers and patients.
- Create positive, supportive team environments where people feel confident, capable and motivated.
- Coach, develop and line manage colleagues through regular conversations, feedback and clear expectations.
- Build strong relationships across multiple stores and adapt your leadership style to different teams and environments.
- Provide leadership and operational support across the Norwich area, taking ownership of store performance when required.
- Confidently lead stores in the absence of the Store Manager, making decisions and maintaining high standards of customer care, compliance and operational excellence.
- Support pharmacy operations and healthcare services, working closely with pharmacy and store teams to deliver safe and effective patient care.
- Ensure stores are clean, safe, legal and easy to shop through effective management of audits, checks and risk assessments.
- Take ownership of stock availability, cost control and loss prevention.
- Use data, reports and local insight to identify opportunities, solve problems and improve performance.
What you'll need to have (our must-haves)
- Experience leading and developing teams in a customer-facing environment.
- Management experience with accountability for people, performance and operations.
- Experience working in a pharmacy, healthcare or other regulated environment.
- Confidence leading a store and making decisions in the absence of the Store Manager.
- Strong coaching, people development and performance management skills.
- Ability to plan, organise and prioritise workload in a fast-paced environment.
- Understanding of compliance, safety and operational standards.
- Confidence using data, reports and systems to drive performance.
- Ability to build strong relationships and adapt quickly across different teams and locations.
- Full UK driving licence and access to your own transport, with flexibility to travel across the Norwich area.
- Passion for delivering great customer care and commercial results.
It would be great if you also have
- Experience working in a pharmacy dispensary as a Pharmacy Advisor, Dispenser or equivalent role.
- An NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services (or equivalent), or a higher pharmacy qualification.
- Experience supporting multiple locations or working in a multi-site role.

Following your probation period, you'll be based at our Norwich Chapelfield store, where you'll continue to build your leadership capability and operational expertise within one of our larger and more complex retail environments. From there, you could progress into Assistant Manager opportunities at other stores across the area, move into specialist leadership roles, or take the next step into Store Manager positions leading your own store.
