We are looking for an experiencedBusiness Intelligence Analysis Team Lead to join our BI department. You will lead a team responsible for building scalable data models, analytics solutions and reporting tools that give teams easier access to reliable insights.

This opportunity is open to applicants based inCape Town, Johannesburg and Pretoria, with remote work available.

What you will be doing

Lead and empower your team

• Lead a team of BI, Data and Analytics specialists.
• Establish clear expectations and support the team in delivering accurate, scalable and valuable analytics solutions.
• Remove obstacles that could affect delivery.
• Encourage collaboration, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
• Mentor team members and help strengthen Mukuru’s overall analytics capabilities.

Turn business needs into data solutions

• Partner with stakeholders across different departments and levels of the business.
• Understand business challenges and translate them into practical reporting, modelling and analytics solutions.
• Use data to uncover insights that support strategic and operational decision-making.
• Present complex findings in a way that is clear, relevant and easy for different audiences to understand.

Build solutions that scale

• Design, develop and maintain high-performing data models.
• Build semantic reporting layers and reports that enable self-service access to data.
• Profile and validate data to ensure its accuracy, completeness, consistency and relevance.
• Create dashboards and visualisations that improve the visibility and accessibility of business information.
• Apply DevOps practices such as version control, automated testing and continuous integration and deployment.

Own delivery

• Take ownership of allocated BI and analytics projects from planning through to implementation.
• Develop and maintain project roadmaps.
• Communicate project progress, risks, blockers and issues proactively.
• Support and train users on BI tools, reports and the interpretation of analytical findings.
• Contribute to the development of Mukuru’s data warehousing, governance and analytics standards. 

What you will bring

We are looking for someone who combines technical BI expertise with confident, people-centred leadership.

Essential experience and qualifications

• Grade 12 or an equivalent qualification.
• A qualification in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, Actuarial Science, Economics, Finance or Business Analytics, or equivalent relevant experience.
• At least six years of experience in Data Analytics or Business Intelligence.
• Experience successfully delivering BI or analytics projects that created measurable business impact.
• At least three years of experience leading BI, Data or Analytics specialists.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
• Experience adapting technical information for executive, operational, technical and non-technical audiences.
• Strong dashboard development and data visualisation experience using modern BI tools such as Power BI.
• Extensive experience developing semantic models for enterprise reporting.
• Strong data-modelling expertise, including dimensional modelling.
• Advanced SQL and Excel skills. 

An advantage

• Experience using R or Python for data analytics.
• Knowledge of analytical techniques such as forecasting, scenario analysis, segmentation, regression, decision trees and time-series analysis.
• Experience with cloud analytics platforms such as Snowflake, Redshift, Azure Synapse or BigQuery.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools, including version control, automated testing, infrastructure as code and CI/CD.
• Experience in financial services, consulting, retail, technology or another high-growth environment.
