Senior Product Manager, Air Shopping Platform

Introduction to the Team:

Expedia Group’s Air Platform helps travelers find and book the right flights across our brands and shopping surfaces. We build the capabilities, metrics, and evaluation systems that help Search, Recommendations, ML, and Engineering teams understand whether flight ranking and recommendations are relevant and effective for travelers, suppliers, and the business—and where to focus the next improvement

Our work spans search quality, recommendation experiences, airline content, marketplace economics, and high-scale systems. We partner with Ranking and Personalization ML Science, ML Engineering, Search Engineering, Analytics, Marketing, Finance, and Airline Supply to improve how flight offers are retrieved, ranked, and presented. We also support Expedia’s presence across metasearch and demand-generation channels, including Google Flights, Skyscanner, Kayak, and other strategic traffic sources.

As Senior Product Manager, you will own product quality and relevance measurement across Air Search surfaces and recommendations. You will turn ambiguous questions about relevance, ranking, and engagement into clear metrics, credible evaluations, and roadmap decisions. Your work will shape how travelers experience search results and recommendations across Expedia Group brands—and how confidently teams can ship ranking and personalization changes.

In this role, you will:

  • Own the product vision and roadmap for flight search and recommendation quality measurement, translating target outcomes and KPIs—such as relevance, ranking quality, recommendation engagement, and search-to-booking success—into measurable delivery milestones.
  • Define and own product metrics for search relevance and recommendation quality. Establish clear success measures, review them regularly, and hold the roadmap accountable to outcomes across both surfaces.
  • Partner with Ranking and Personalization ML Science, ML Engineering, and Search Engineering to define and evaluate ranking and recommendation model quality, and to make informed trade-offs on proposed model changes.
  • Set up and scale the search relevance evaluation system, including a curated query corpus, human relevance annotations, and LLM-as-judge scoring. Report results through the broader Search Health program and extend evaluation methods to recommendation surfaces such as destination recommendations, cross-sell, and rebooking.
  • Connect offline model-quality metrics with online indicators to assess changes and guide prioritization.
  • Lead competitive benchmarking of flight search relevance and recommendations. Translate findings into a prioritized set of product, ranking, and personalization investments.
  • Use customer insights, experimentation, and performance data to identify opportunities, validate hypotheses, and measure the traveler and business impact of changes.
  • Partner with Airline Supply, marketplace, and platform teams to improve offer visibility, content quality, pricing competitiveness, and shopping performance.
  • Shape how Expedia flight offers are surfaced across metasearch platforms, search engines, and other high-scale acquisition channels, balancing relevance and customer experience with traffic economics and business performance.
  • Work with Engineering on search architecture, content retrieval, caching, latency, content freshness, connectivity, and system scalability. Evaluate trade-offs among coverage, search costs, performance, and traveler experience.
  • Align cross-functional stakeholders on priorities, success metrics, and execution across complex dependencies; maintain delivery momentum as needs and evidence evolve.
  • Shape the long-term Air Search and Recommendations vision and contribute to an 18-month roadmap for Expedia Group’s air-commerce strategy.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 8+ years of relevant professional experience in product management with a bachelor’s degree, 6+ years with a master’s degree, or equivalent related professional experience.
  • Strong technical aptitude and the ability to engage deeply on search and recommendation systems, platform architecture, APIs, scalability, and performance trade-offs.
  • Proven experience partnering closely with Engineering and technical teams to deliver complex products and measurable business outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to define product metrics, use data and experimentation, and apply analytical thinking to inform strategy and prioritization.
  • Strong stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to influence and drive alignment without direct authority.
  • Exceptional ownership, bias for action, curiosity, and ability to operate effectively in ambiguous environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in search, recommendations, ranking, personalization, relevance measurement, or online experimentation for consumer products.
  • Familiarity with evaluating search or recommendation quality using offline metrics (for example, NDCG@10), online proxies, human relevance judgments, or LLM-assisted evaluation.
  • Experience with airline shopping, travel technology, flight distribution, metasearch, online travel marketplaces, or ecommerce.
  • Understanding of airline economics, supplier connectivity models, fare content, distribution costs, and marketplace dynamics.
  • Experience with large-scale consumer products, high-volume search systems, pricing platforms, or transactional marketplaces.
  • Understanding of traffic acquisition, performance marketing, and customer acquisition economics.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex business and technical trade-offs and influence technical strategy with senior Engineering and cross-functional leaders.
