Safety:

  • Correctly performs LOTO.
  • Follows all the safety measures on the machines while performing a changeover.
  • Uses proper PPE (Steel toe shoes, safety glasses, hairnet, beard net and cut resistant gloves etc.).
  • Drive a forklift safely while transporting molds.
  • Safely operate power tools.

 

Mold Maintenance:

  • Keep all tooling components in good condition.
  • Perform tooling inspections after removing them from the machine and fill out documentation properly.
  • Repair any broken items on the molds that can be properly repaired in-house or advise your manager that the tool must be sent out for repair.
  • Perform and document routine inspections on trim carriers, water plates and spacers. Suggest when it is adequate to replace.

 

Mold Assembly:

  • Read and follow the mold assembly instructions.
  • Safely re-knife or swap dies.
  •  
  • Must ensure the buildup is the correct height in correspondence to each machine’s specifications.
  • Abide by the production schedule and list of priorities. Prepare for any immediate changes.
  • Retrieve the different components needed to assemble a mold from their respective storage locations.
  • Assemble molds and have them prepared for production along with filling out the necessary checklists to ensure the mold was correctly assembled.
  • Properly clean all mold surfaces that will be in contact with the packaging to ensure hygienic production.
  • Perform leak tests to ensure the tool is functional (ex. Gas cylinders, stripper plate/plug assist cylinders and pressurized air tests).
  • Mold Setup:
  • Perform proper procedure on how to purge the water out of a tool.
  • Actuate the functions on the machines’ HMI.
  • Remove the water/air hoses.
  • Install/uninstall tooling without supervision.
  • Change recipes on the machines.
  • Dry cycle the machines to ensure the mold works properly.
  • Maintain clean work area.
  •  

    General:

  • Store the mold components in their proper storage location after taking the mold out.
  • Keep the mold assembly clean and organized.
  • Continuously look for ways to improve the efficiency, safety, and hygiene of the operation.
  • Continuously look for ways to improve quality.
  • Help the shifts in whatever other needs there might be, such as temporarily helping to pack or operate when needed.
  • Report any safety concerns to your manager.
  • Report any hygiene concerns to your manager.

    Lead Expectations:

  • Continuously monitor our processes to ensure quality standards are maintained and improved on.
  • Must acquire a detailed knowledge of our processes and be able to personally identify and learn about each tooling component.
  • Train MA Techs.
  • Follow up and review that all MA techs are completing the proper inspections, checklists and entering all daily activities in the log (ShiftNote).
  • Upkeep and monitor the racks. Update any changes to the tooling inventory.
  • Hold periodic meetings with MA Technicians to improve on efficiency, process and quality of work.
  • Supervise and develop the techs and other personnel assigned to that area. This will be done in conjunction with the Tooling Manager to make sure that personnel are supervised 24 hours a day.
  • Assist with inspecting new tooling.
  • Keep an open line of communication with Production Supervisors regarding tooling issues and/or changeovers.
  • Assist with changeovers.
  • Maintain standards and hold peers accountable.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours so that he/she can spend time communicating with “off shifts”, whether they be weekday night shift or weekend shifts.
  • Fill in for absentees.
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Report out on any issues, changeovers and metrics.

Qualifications

Three or more years in some sort of production maintenance or assembly function.

Two or more years in basic manufacturing maintenance.

Prior experience in Supervision/Lead roles.

Strong understanding on how to use tools.

 

Must be able to occasionally lift heavy mold parts weighing up to 50 lbs.

Must have the dexterity a mechanic would have to screw bolts and nuts together.

Must be able to reach into tight spaces in a machine.

Must be able to stand on their feet 6-7 hours a day.

Can work more than 8 hours a day when necessary.
