About The Job:

• We are seeking an experienced Middleware Technical Lead specializing in Apache Tomcat, container platforms, and OpenShift environments.
• The ideal candidate will be responsible for leading middleware architecture, deployment automation, platform governance, performance optimization, and operational support across enterprise application hosting environments.
• This role requires strong expertise in Tomcat administration, containerization technologies, OpenShift platform operations, automation, reliability engineering, and middleware modernization initiatives.

Essential Job Functions:

• Lead the design, deployment, configuration, tuning, and support of Apache Tomcat environments across development, testing, staging, and production environments.
• Manage Tomcat server architecture including instances, connectors, thread pools, JVM parameters, session management, clustering, and high-availability configurations.
• Oversee application deployments for WAR and JAR-based Java applications and support release activities across VM-based and containerized middleware platforms.
• Drive containerization initiatives using Docker and Podman, including image creation, registry management, image hardening, runtime configuration, and deployment standards.
• Lead implementation and support of OpenShift VM and container platforms, including projects, namespaces, routes, services, deployments, persistent volumes, secrets, config maps, and resource quotas.
• Implement platform reliability practices including health checks, readiness probes, liveness probes, auto-restart policies, scaling strategies, and capacity monitoring.
• Integrate Tomcat and containerized workloads with Apache HTTP Server, NGINX, load balancers, API gateways, SSL certificates, identity services, and security controls.
• Collaborate with application, security, database, network, and DevOps teams to support platform hardening, vulnerability remediation, certificate renewals, and secure configuration baselines.
• Lead incident resolution, performance troubleshooting, JVM analysis, thread dump analysis, heap dump analysis, log reviews, and root cause investigations.
• Automate middleware provisioning, configuration management, patching, and deployment activities using Shell Scripting, Ansible, Jenkins, Git-based pipelines, and related automation tools.
• Support disaster recovery readiness, failover validation, backup and restore procedures, and participation in disaster recovery exercises.
• Guide and mentor junior engineers while enforcing best practices for configuration management, operational governance, documentation, and change management.
• Develop and maintain operational runbooks, platform standards, and technical documentation.
• Ensure compliance with enterprise security, audit, and operational policies.

Qualifications:

• Experience: 8+ Years

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
• 8+ years of experience in middleware infrastructure administration with at least 3+ years in a technical lead or senior middleware engineering role.
• Strong hands-on experience with Apache Tomcat installation, configuration, clustering, tuning, patching, and troubleshooting.
• Strong expertise in containerization using Docker and Podman, image build processes, registry management, and image vulnerability remediation.
• Hands-on experience with OpenShift VM and container platform operations including deployments, routes, services, secrets, config maps, persistent storage, and resource management.
• Strong experience in JVM tuning, garbage collection analysis, thread dump analysis, heap dump review, and application performance troubleshooting.
• Experience with SSL/TLS, keystore management, truststores, certificate administration, reverse proxy integration, and secure middleware configurations.
• Strong Linux/Unix administration experience including shell scripting, automation, log analysis, and operational runbook creation.
• Good understanding of Java application hosting models, application lifecycle management, release management, and middleware deployment patterns.
• Experience with enterprise DevOps and CI/CD tools including Git, Jenkins, Ansible, Maven, Gradle, Nexus, Artifactory, or similar platforms.
• Strong understanding of Incident, Problem, Change, and Release Management processes, preferably under ITIL frameworks.
• Experience using monitoring and observability platforms such as Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, AppDynamics, Dynatrace, ELK Stack, or similar tools.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, problem-solving, and performance optimization skills.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and team leadership abilities.
