What You’ll Do
No two clients or days will look exactly the same! Depending on the individual you support, you may:
- Help with everyday needs, routines, and life skills
- Work with clients toward their personal goals and greater independence
- Plan and participate in activities and community outings
- Provide transportation to activities and other community destinations
- Assist with personal cares, including toileting, brief changes, bathing, feeding, and meal preparation
- Support clients with coping skills and positive interactions
- Assist with medications, when assigned and properly trained
- Provide mobility and transfer assistance, including the use of adaptive equipment when needed
- Complete required documentation related to client services and goals
- Follow individualized support plans and safety procedures
What We’re Looking For
- High school diploma
- 6–12 months of experience supporting individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities is preferred
- Experience assisting with personal cares, including toileting and brief changes, is preferred
- Ability to work independently and provide dependable one-on-one support
- Ability to use electronic devices, databases, and internet-based applications
- Ability to transport clients in your personal vehicle and maintain required vehicle insurance
- Willingness to complete medication certification if required for your assigned client
- Commitment to providing a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment
- Ability to successfully complete a criminal background check and required drug/alcohol testing
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential responsibilities of this position. Employees must be able to frequently sit, stand, walk, and communicate throughout the workday. This position requires the ability to stoop, bend, kneel, twist, reach, push, pull, and respond quickly to client needs, including emergency situations. Employees must be able to lift and transfer a minimum of 50 pounds and assist with moving clients who may be unable to support their own weight. This includes the safe use of assistive equipment such as Hoyer lifts, standers, wheelchairs, and other adaptive devices. Employees may be required to push and pull wheelchairs and equipment supporting clients weighing 100–200 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
