Job Description

Performs tests with high complexity on blood and body fluids to provide information for diagnosing and combating disease consistent with a level 1 trauma center.  Works independently with moderate supervision from a Medical Scientist Supervisor or the Director of Laboratory Operations.  May be assigned to work in a specialized section within the department.

• Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory/medical technology scienceand ASCP (or equivalent) certification in one or more specialty areas of the laboratory. Or, Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory/medical technology scienceand completion of an AMA approved laboratory training program and eligible for ASCP certification. Or, completion of an approved government training program and eligible for ASCP certification
• Verbal communication skills required to interact with other hospital personnel.
• Writing skills and computer aptitude required to document test results and prepare reports of daily work
• Must be able to stand for long periods
• Ability to work in a fast paced, high volume environment
• Must be available to rotate shifts and work weekends and holidays
• All Scientists must meet the CLIA ’88 requirements for the complexity level of work performed
• Will participate in weekend rotation that occurs every other weekend.
