What to Expect
Tesla Energy is looking for a highly skilled, motivated engineer to own the mechanical design of key subsystems in our next-generation Energy products. You will work on high-voltage distribution, power conversion hardware, and the products that power Tesla Supercharger, industrial Energy and data center applications. The role requires strong engineering fundamentals, a passion for pushing the boundaries of technology, and the tenacity to make your designs succeed. Tesla operates on compressed timelines, so self-motivation, discipline, and resilience are critical. We aim to recruit the most talented engineers to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy.Â
The Energy mechanical design team is a diverse group of engineers building world-class power hardware. We make major system architecture decisions and own detailed design, simulation, and hands-on mechanical development, from early ideation through mass production. Our work spans high-voltage (HV) distribution systems, PCBA packaging, and electromechanical device design for medium-voltage (MV) subsystems, data center applications, and next-generation power conversion. Few teams at Tesla work on core power distribution technology and also on products that everyday people use. If you are mission-driven, enthusiastic, and love hands-on engineering, this team is for you.Â
What You’ll Do
- Design and model mechanical components and assemblies, including sheet metal, structural metals, plastics, environmental sealing, and fasteners
- Perform design analysis, including structural and thermal FEA, design for assembly (DFA), design for manufacturing (DFM), and design for test (DFT)Â
- Partner with cross-functional teams to refine specifications and meet performance, aesthetic, schedule, cost, reliability, and quality targetsÂ
- Collaborate with thermal, systems, electrical, sourcing, manufacturing, and reliability teams to take designs from prototype to mass productionÂ
- Develop engineering test plans and design test setupsÂ
- Own the mechanical design of your product end to end, from concept through production release and ramp
What You’ll Bring
- Degree in mechanical engineering with 3+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent experienceÂ
- Experience designing for high-volume manufacturing and assemblyÂ
- Experience designing products with a large bill of materialsÂ
- Experience designing for outdoor environments, including IP/NEMA environmental sealingÂ
- Experience with manufacturing processes such as stamping, extrusion, welding/brazing, plating, heat treating, injection molding, thermoforming, and bondingÂ
- Experience defining test plans, designing test setups, and analyzing dataÂ
- Experience with PLM systems, engineering changes, deviations, and BOM structuringÂ
- Experience with high voltage (HV) distribution design is a plusÂ
- Experience with medium voltage (MV) design is a plusÂ
- 3DX/Catia 6 experience is a plusÂ
