Mechanical Design Engineer

Clayton Services is searching for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a thriving company in Northwest Houston. The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for designing and developing mechanical components and machinery systems, creating detailed engineering drawings, and collaborating with manufacturing teams to support the design, production, and improvement of industrial equipment.

Pay Rate: $75,000–$140,000, depending on experience

Mechanical Design Engineer Responsibilities:

• Design and develop mechanical components and machinery systems, including structural assemblies, gear reducers, motors, bearings, and hydraulic systems.
• Develop new equipment designs based on customer specifications, engineering requirements, and applicable industry standards.
• Create detailed 3D models, technical drawings, and engineering documentation using CAD software.
• Design modifications and repairs for existing machinery to improve equipment performance, functionality, and reliability.
• Prepare accurate bills of materials (BOMs) to support procurement, fabrication, and manufacturing operations.
• Perform engineering calculations and evaluate mechanical designs to ensure functionality, safety, and reliability.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, production, purchasing, and electrical teams throughout the design and production process.
• Troubleshoot mechanical design challenges and recommend practical engineering solutions.
• Support projects from initial concept and design through manufacturing and implementation.

Mechanical Design Engineer Skills and Abilities:

• Strong mechanical design skills with experience developing industrial machinery or equipment.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or comparable 3D CAD software.
• Knowledge of mechanical systems, including structural components, gearboxes, motors, bearings, and hydraulics.
• Ability to develop and interpret detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and bills of materials.
• Understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple engineering projects and meet established deadlines.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to engineering accuracy and quality.

Mechanical Design Engineer Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline required.
• Previous mechanical design engineering experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment preferred.
• Experience designing heavy machinery, lifting equipment, cranes, or other complex mechanical systems is a plus.
• Hands-on experience with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar engineering design software required.
• Familiarity with hydraulic systems, mechanical power transmission, and structural design preferred.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes, fabrication techniques, and material selection is a plus.
