Lineman (UG)

McCall-Thomas Engineering Company is seeking a full-time 1099 contract Lineman (Underground) for work requiring require travel in the Southeast, with current projects in SC, NC and GA. This position will be evaluated for conversion to a full-time regular hire with benefits after 3 months of work in good standing.

McCall-Thomas Engineering is seeking a motivated and safety-consciousUnderground Lineman to support the installation and maintenance of underground fiber optic networks. This position plays a critical role in the construction of broadband infrastructure by installing conduit, placing fiber optic cable, and supporting underground utility construction activities.

The ideal candidate will have experience in underground telecommunications construction, utility installation, or related field operations and a strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Install underground conduit, innerduct, handholes, vaults, and associated fiber optic infrastructure.
• Pull, place, and secure fiber optic cable in underground systems.
• Assist with directional drilling, trenching, boring, and cable placement operations.
• Locate and identify existing underground utilities before excavation.
• Perform restoration activities following construction, including grading, seeding, and site cleanup.
• Read and interpret construction prints, utility maps, and work orders.
• Operate construction equipment such as mini excavators, trenchers, skid steers, vibratory plows, and cable trailers.
• Conduct daily equipment inspections and maintain tools and vehicles.
• Ensure compliance with company safety standards, OSHA regulations, and customer requirements.
• Support outage response and emergency restoration efforts when required.
• Maintain accurate records of completed work and materials used.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED 
• Line worker certification
• Eligibility to work in the US without any sponsorship requirements
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in underground utility, telecommunications, fiber optic, or related construction work
• Knowledge of underground construction methods and utility safety practices
• Ability to read construction drawings and follow project specifications
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
• CDL-A
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Ability to travel as required and work overtime when necessary

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with fiber optic cable placement and telecommunications construction.
• Experience operating trenching, boring, drilling, or excavating equipment.
• Knowledge of utility locating procedures.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
• Experience working in a crew environment on utility infrastructure projects

Benefits are not offered for contract (1099) hires, but if this position transitions to a regular full-time employee of McCall-Thomas, benefits would be available at the time of transition. This is a 1099 contract position at this time.
