Summary:
This role involves working as a Materials Engineering lab technician with a range of assignments and tasks that can vary from routine to infrequent. The position requires broad duties that may need evaluations by the position holder, who will perform materials engineering supporting tasks or complex laboratory analytical functions with limited engineering oversight.

Responsibilities
- Complete tasks involving preparation or analysis of material samples/components/processes with minor engineering oversight for moderately complex activities.
- Develop, recommend, and implement analytical or process changes needed to maintain or improve product quality on a tactical or strategic basis.
- Work with maintenance and production personnel to troubleshoot laboratory equipment, process, or analytical problems.
- Participate on project teams to leverage knowledge and experience to improve factory performance in safety, quality, cost, and delivery.
- Create and maintain process instructions or develop analytical processes to meet production needs.
- Create and maintain laboratory procedures and processes.
- Maintain “Sustain” level of 5S in the materials Engineering lab.
- Perform laboratory tasks as requested and support activities in the materials lab as Materials engineering Work Requests are received.
- Order and stock lab consumables, track reservation numbers, IM numbers, prices, order dates, and delivery dates.
- Enter crib reservation in SAP (PDX) transaction.
- Collect parts, perform audits, and maintain monthly/quarterly audit spreadsheets.
- Track work request system and maintain all lab equipment.
- Support changeovers and adjustments at S450 crankshaft heat treat.
- Maintain coolant levels in all saws and get new consumables approved for use.
Qualifications
- Excellent understanding of part prints, process instructions, and industry standards.
- Basic to moderate knowledge of ferrous machining processes and application to materials analysis.
- Basic knowledge of production and analytical equipment, and maintenance activities needed to produce or verify a quality product.
- Solid mechanical aptitude and a strong drive to grow this skill set.
- Very good verbal and written communication skills.
Skills
- 2-year associate technical degree or equivalent work experience.
- Experience in process control and analytical analysis relevant to this position.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with shop floor or laboratory environment.
- Participation as a contributing team member on substantial process problem-solving teams.
- Demonstrated technical leadership and mentoring experience.
- Experience with production systems and databases.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other electronic engineering software tools.
Pay Transparency:The typical base pay for this role across the U.S. is: $33.78 - $33.78 /hour. Non-exempt positions are eligible for overtime at a rate of 1.5 times the base hourly rate for all hours worked in excess of 40 in a work week, or as required by state or local law. Final offer amounts, within the base pay set forth above, are determined by factors including your relevant skills, education and experience. Full-time employees are eligible to select from different benefits packages.
