About the role
Energy Ogre is a Houston-based electricity membership service that helps Texans in the deregulated market stop overpaying for power. Members pay a flat monthly fee, and we shop, switch and monitor their electricity plans for them. Our growth comes from trust: what people read about us, what they hear from other members, and how well we keep the members we earn.
The Marketing Manager will be a driving force in how Energy Ogre engages its members, through the messages, offers and moments that decide whether they complete onboarding, stay, refer or come back. From there, you'll turn member experiences into reviews, referrals and community proof, and use what we learn from members to create content that sets us apart in Google and AI answers. This is a hands-on, Houston-based role reporting to the VP of Marketing, working closely with our SEO agency partner, our Marketing Intelligence Lead, and the operations and product teams that support member communications.
Who we're looking for
We want a curious marketer who can't leave a good question alone and turns what they find into better member experiences that deliver value. You know why people click, trust, hesitate, cancel and come back, and you use that understanding deliberately to drive commercial outcomes.
You'll thrive here if you:
- Understand people as well as marketing. You know what makes members stay, refer and come back, and you apply behavioral psychology (loss aversion, social proof, timing, framing) with judgment, not gimmicks.
- Dig for value others miss. You look at a member survey, a support log or a cancellation reason and see a winback offer, a review program or a story worth telling.
- Put our first-party data to work. Member savings, plan outcomes and stories are assets. You'll turn them into proof that keeps members, wins over prospects and earns visibility in search and AI answers.
- Write like it matters. You can move between a persuasive winback email, a credible explainer and a punchy social post, and you know when AI speeds you up and when it flattens your voice.
- Study the competition. You enjoy tearing down what competitors publish, promise and rank for, and finding the gaps we can own.
- Care about results. You set goals, measure outcomes (retention, referrals, reviews, rankings) and change course when the numbers tell you to.
Key responsibilities
This role starts with our members. You’ll shape how we communicate with them, turn their experiences into reviews, referrals and community proof, and use what we learn from them to create content no competitor can copy.
Member lifecycle marketing
Own the creative and messaging that help members onboard, stay, refer and come back.
- Create member communications (email, SMS, portal messaging and more), focusing on design, messaging and calls to action. Operations and product teams support triggers and workflows.
- Craft messaging and on-brand creative for Refer-a-Friend, Ogre Points and other member growth programs across touchpoints.
- Develop winback campaigns for former members and lapsed leads, including offers, messaging and timing, and partner with operations on triggers.
- Test and measure lifecycle messages, and report on their impact on retention over time.
Reputation and community
Extend member experiences into public proof and conversation.
- Expand on programs that encourage happy members to leave reviews and share their experience.
- Monitor reviews on Google, Trustpilot and other platforms, and own response strategy and timely replies.
- Own Reddit strategy and engage in conversations on Reddit and other forums where Texans talk about electricity.
- Run social listening across reviews, forums and social, and report on volume, ratings and sentiment, flagging themes, issues and opportunities to the business.
- Partner with the social lead to extend member benefits and campaigns across social channels.
Content and organic discoverability
Turn member data into content that sets Energy Ogre apart in search and AI answers.
- Turn first-party data (member savings, plan outcomes and member stories) into a roadmap of original, credible content that search engines and LLMs reward.
- Guide our agency’s SEO, content and AI visibility work by providing briefs and member insights, and reviewing deliverables before they publish.
- Craft supplemental blog posts, web copy and seasonal content.
- Monitor competitors’ content, rankings, messaging and offers, and recommend where we should compete or differentiate.
