Responsibilities

  • Serve as liaison between shore-side IT & the various departments on the ship
  • Manage all ship board IT projects
  • Provide mentoring and ongoing training to Analyst
  • Assist shore side with planning, communicating, and scheduling of new application and system deployments
  • Troubleshooting, maintenance, and testing of electronics, computer systems, and software: 
    • Coordinating deployment of system patches to all computers (PC and laptops) connected to the ships network   
    • Configuration of all computers per company standards to ensure maximum stability and up-time
    • Maintain and troubleshooting all Point of Sale terminals
    • Deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot ship printers (network and local) 
    • Assist with any issues on Bridge / Engine specific systems
    • Assist with issues concerning the data satellite system
    • See to the security of all information stored on the network 
    • Check and monitor system security and maintain access restrictions (change of passwords, etc.)
    • Monitor user activities and report any abuses to the Chief Engineer
    • Monitor and manage the backup of all ship servers and data 
    • Assist shore side IT with application deployment, upgrades, and troubleshooting
    • Maintain and manage deployment of Anti-Virus software to ensure protection of all company assets
  • Attend the daily Engineering Department meeting
  • Participate in weekly conf call with shore side IT leadership
  • Inform department heads of any relevant computer issue
  • Proactively communicate all IT related ship board issues/plans to shore side IT leadership
  • Communicate/Coordinate planned activities with peers on other ships in the fleet
  • Maintain ship board knowledge base to ensure proper documentation of all systems and activities
  • Maintaining inventory of all computer hardware and software with serial numbers and record of ownership
  • Reporting any changes in inventory to the Chief Engineer
  • Maintain and program the ship’s inventory of pagers and radios
  • User assistance
    • Assist users when required in all computer based applications
    • Instruct users in basic handling routines, e.g., login, logout, personal file maintenance, printer operations, etc. 
    • Provide occasional user training for new applications
    • Monitor and manage users data storage requirements to ensure effective use of resources
    • Utilize automation tools and monitoring systems to proactively monitor and manage user computer systems
  • Network Maintenance and Operation: 
    • Proactively monitor health of all network electronics on daily basis to ensure maximum up time
    • Update network electronics configuration as needed to meet changing business needs for connectivity
    • Monitor ship wireless network to ensure maximum up time
    • Troubleshoot and maintain all network cabling
    • Assist shore side IT with network design/architecture activities to support business growth
  • Regular Maintenance routines: 
    • Perform regular backups of all server based systems
    • Daily check of all servers to ensure proper operation
    • Install new software as required
    • Monitor network storage for inappropriate use (music files, personal photos, etc)
  • Working in coordination with the 1st and Automation Electronics Engineers for the reliability, integrity and availability of automation systems throughout the vessel
  • Is familiar with and complies with the SMS at all times
  • Emergency Duties as specified in the ship Assembly Plan
  • Performs other duties assigned by the Chief Electrical Engineer
  • Loads all SMS changes and performs checks on key links to see that they work and reports completion to Quality Assurance
  • Sees that the latest SMS version is available to all users, including on key computers and laptops not attached to the ship’s network
  • Responsible for removing any copies and old versions (including forms) of the SMS from the ship’s network

Basic Qualifications

  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft suite of applications (MS Office, MS Outlook, MS Visio, etc)
  • Experience with VMWare virtualization technology
  • Experienced with Microsoft server operation, operating systems, installation,  and troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with IT operations in the Cruise industry
  • Strong PC setup and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to express thoughts clearly and thoroughly in writing
  • Experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Cisco network electronics
  • Understanding of computer network operation and best practices

Preferred Qualifications

  • 4-year Degree in Information Technology or related field of study
  • CCNA certification
  • MCSE certification
  • Knowledge of telephony systems including VOIP
  • Familiarity with Fidelio Cruise applications
  • Familiarity with Micros Point of Sale application

Additional Information

This is a SHIPBOARD role. 
You must: 
  • Be genuinely interested in a career at sea and willing to live and work onboard a Disney Cruise Line vessel 
  • Be willing to follow and perform safety role, emergency responsibilities, and associated responsibilities as specified in the ship Assembly Plan 
  • Be willing to uphold the general safety management responsibilities as specified in the Safety Management System in areas and operations under their control 
  • If applicable, be willing to share a confined cabin with other crew members and appreciative of working and living in a multicultural environment that has strict rules and regulations 
Your Responsibilities: 
  • Have a valid passport and C1/D Seaman's visa (DCL will provide you with documents to obtain this) 
  • Complete a pre-employment medical 
  • Obtain a criminal background check 
  • Bring approved work shoes
