Our core values: Zero Harm, Teamwork, Results Driven, Courage and Accountability.
Â
Summary:
DMC Mining Services is seeking an experienced project controls leader to lead corporate project controls oversight and reporting across our portfolio of underground mining construction projects in Canada, the United States and Chile. Site-based Project Controls teams submit their project controls reporting to this position, and the Manager, Corporate Project Controls is accountable for turning those submissions into one consolidated, reliable view of cost, schedule, progress and forecast performance across all projects.Â
Each month, you will consolidate the results from every site into the corporate month-end Project Controls Report and coordinate the presentation to the Chief Executive Officer and executive leadership team, giving the business a clear and consistent picture of project health and the decisions it needs to make. Beyond reporting, you will assist with setting the standards, systems and governance the sites follow, provide functional guidance that builds the capability of the site controls teams, and act as a trusted partner to Operations, Finance, Legal, Procurement and Estimating.Â
This role suits a project controls professional who wants an enterprise-wide mandate, direct executive exposure and the opportunity to shape how a global mining contractor plans, measures and delivers its work.
Responsibilities:
•  Lead corporate project controls governance and, together with the Director, Project Controls, set the standards, procedures and tools applied across all projects in Canada, the United States and Chile.
•  Establish and maintain a single project controls framework — WBS structures, cost coding, progress measurement / earned value rules, invoicing, change management, forecasting methodology and reporting formats — so that every site measures and reports performance consistently.
• Conduct periodic reviews and audits of site project controls execution; identify gaps, agree corrective actions with site leadership and follow through to closure.
• Lead the continuous improvement of controls processes and systems, including the evaluation, implementation and integration of project controls software and its interface withÂ
• Consolidate site cost, schedule, progress, change and forecast data into the corporate month-end Project Controls Report and submit it to the CEO on schedule every month.
• Coordinate the update of executive dashboards and KPIs including earned value metrics (CPI/SPI), estimate and forecast at completion, cash flow, change order and claims status, and risk exposure. Ensure that site teams provide accurate and clear, insight-driven commentary on variances, trends and the decisions required.
• Lead the move to automated and intelligent portfolio reporting, replacing manual spreadsheet consolidation with one source of truth.
• Challenge and validate site forecasts and estimates at completion so that the executive view is accurate, consistent across projects and defensible.
• Support annual budgeting, periodic re-forecasting, bid reviews and board or shareholder reporting with project performance data, benchmarks and lessons learned.
• Play a key role in the estimate conformance process, working with Estimating and Operations to convert awarded bid estimates into standardized, execution-ready control budgets that provide a consistent cost baseline across all projects.
• Review and approve baseline budgets and schedules developed by the site teams, ensuring cost- and resource-loaded Primavera P6 schedules are aligned to the WBS and meet corporate standards.
• Oversee progress measurement, earned value analysis and schedule forecasting; identify critical path threats and cost overrun risks early and escalate them with recommended actions.
• Govern the change management process across sites, ensuring that scope changes, trends and potential claims are identified, quantified, captured in forecasts and notified to clients within contractual timeframes.
• Provide cost engineering, estimating and value engineering support to project teams, and supply historical performance data and productivity benchmarks to the Estimating andÂ
• Lead project risk management from a controls perspective, including quantitative cost and schedule risk analysis where required.
•Provide functional leadership and guidance to the site-based Project Controls teams across the three countries; set clear requirements, deadlines and quality expectations for site reporting submissions.
• Coach and mentor site controls personnel, deliver training on corporate standards, systems and reporting requirements, and provide input to site leadership on the performance and development of project controls staff.
• Advise site and operations leadership on project controls resourcing and support the recruitment and onboarding of controls staff.
• Foster a culture of accuracy, transparency, early escalation and continuous improvement across the controls community.
• Act as the primary project controls interface for executive leadership, Operations/Construction, Finance, Contracts, Procurement and Estimating, ensuring controls data reconciles with financial reporting and supports sound commercial decisions.
• Support client reporting, cost reviews and commercial negotiations with accurate, well-presented performance information.
• Attend and contribute to weekly and monthly project and management reviews.
• Perform other related duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Business, Finance or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ten or more years of progressive project controls experience in mining or heavy civil/industrial construction, including at least five years in a senior or lead project controls role. Underground mining contractor experience is strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience overseeing project controls across multiple concurrent projects or sites, ideally in more than one country.
• Expert knowledge of earned value management, cost control, forecasting, change management and schedule analysis, with a track record of implementing EVM-based project controls systems to recognized standards.
• Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6, including cost- and resource-loaded schedules, together with strong Excel and Power BI (or equivalent) skills and experience with enterprise cost management or ERP systems.
• Proven ability to consolidate complex multi-project data into concise, decision-ready executive reporting and to present it credibly to senior leadership.
• Proven ability to lead through influence: setting expectations, driving accountability for deliverables and building capability in site teams you do not directly manage, together with exceptional written and verbal communication skills and the credibility to engage across functions and seniority levels.
