About the Role

Asphalt Green is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and service-driven Manager of Operations to support the day-to-day operations of the Major R. Owens Health and Wellness Community Center in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.

The Manager of Operations supports the Managing Director and center leadership team by coordinating administrative, operational, rentals, events, vendor, facility, and communication processes that help the center run smoothly. This role provides direct oversight of the Rentals Coordinator and supports the systems, platforms, and workflows connected to rentals and events.

This role also supports coordination across maintenance, vendor, and security teams, while helping maintain strong working relationships with internal departments, property managers, building partners, clients, contractors, and other on-site stakeholders.

The Manager of Operations plays a key role in keeping information organized, following up on service needs, supporting event execution, tracking operational requests, and helping ensure that the center remains safe, clean, welcoming, and responsive to the needs of visitors, participants, renters, staff, and community partners.

The ideal candidate is proactive, organized, calm under pressure, comfortable working across teams, and able to manage details in a fast-paced, multi-stakeholder environment.

Why This Role Matters

The Major R. Owens Health and Wellness Community Center is a busy community space that brings together fitness, wellness, recreation, rentals, events, cultural programming, and community engagement.

The Manager of Operations helps ensure the center is prepared, organized, safe, and ready to support the people and programs using the space each day. This role directly impacts the experience of visitors, renters, program teams, vendors, staff, and community partners.

Strong operations support helps prevent confusion, improve communication, resolve issues faster, support successful events, and create a more reliable and welcoming environment for everyone who enters the center.

This role matters because the center cannot run well without strong coordination, follow-through, and operational accountability.

What You’ll Do

Operations and Administrative Support

  • Support the Managing Director and center leadership team with daily operational coordination.

  • Coordinate administrative processes related to rentals, events, facility needs, service requests, and day-to-day operations.

  • Maintain accurate records, schedules, updates, reports, and operational documentation.

  • Support communication between internal teams, vendors, renters, clients, contractors, property managers, building partners, and center staff.

  • Track operational requests, follow-up items, repairs, service tickets, vendor needs, and facility updates.

  • Help ensure operational information is clear, current, and accessible to the appropriate stakeholders.

  • Maintain clear and consistent communication with the Managing Director and department leaders.

  • Support operational reporting, meeting preparation, and follow-up on action items.

Rentals and Events Operations

  • Provide direct oversight of the Rentals Coordinator and the rentals and events business platforms.

  • Support rental and event operations from planning through execution.

  • Help ensure rental and event details are communicated clearly to internal teams and external clients.

  • Support event execution, including nights and weekends as needed.

  • Coordinate with clients, vendors, internal staff, security, maintenance, and other teams to support successful events.

  • Help resolve rental or event-related operational issues in a timely and professional manner.

  • Support accurate tracking of rental schedules, event logistics, service needs, and internal communication.

  • Identify opportunities to improve rental and event workflows, communication, and customer experience.

Facilities, Vendors, and Building Coordination

  • Serve as a key point of contact for external vendors, contractors, and service providers.

  • Support coordination with maintenance, vendor, and security teams.

  • Conduct facility walkthroughs to ensure areas are safe, clean, organized, and meeting appropriate standards.

  • Monitor the status of operational service tickets, repairs, vendor updates, and facility-related requests.

  • Coordinate communication related to maintenance needs, safety concerns, repairs, and operational issues.

  • Partner with property managers and building partners to support smooth center operations.

  • Escalate facility, vendor, security, or service concerns to the Managing Director as needed.

  • Help ensure the center is prepared for daily operations, rentals, events, and community use.

Operational Performance and Process Improvement

  • Monitor operational performance and identify areas for improvement.

  • Review workflows and recommend strategies to improve efficiency, communication, service delivery, and visitor experience.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of long-term operational strategies.

  • Support process improvements that strengthen rentals, events, facility coordination, service response, and internal communication.

  • Help implement systems that improve follow-through, accountability, and operational consistency.

  • Conduct regular team meetings or operational updates to keep staff informed about upcoming events, facility needs, and adjustments within the center.

  • Support change management and operational improvements in a way that is clear, practical, and collaborative.

Budget and Resource Support

  • Assist with the development and tracking of the operational budget.

  • Help monitor expenses, resource needs, service costs, and budget-related updates.

  • Support responsible use of resources and help identify opportunities for cost efficiency.

  • Communicate budget concerns, operational needs, or resource gaps to the Managing Director as appropriate.

  • Track vendor, service, event, and operational needs that may impact budget planning.

Manager on Duty Support

  • Serve as Manager on Duty as assigned.

  • Act as the on-site point of contact for operational issues when a manager or senior leader is not on site.

  • Respond to escalations related to facilities, events, visitors, vendors, staff, safety, or center operations.

  • Make sound judgment calls in the moment and escalate issues appropriately.

  • Help ensure the center remains safe, organized, and responsive during assigned MOD coverage.

What Success Looks Like
