Position Summary:
The Nutrition Services Manager provides operational leadership for food production, cafeteria services, and meal delivery within Trinity Health Kenmare Hospital, supporting reliable and high-quality nutrition services across the facility. This role oversees high-volume meal preparation, retail and catering activities, and daily kitchen operations to ensure efficient service and consistent nutrition support for patients, staff, and visitors. Working in close partnership with the Director of Nutrition Services, the Nutrition Services Manager helps maintain regulatory compliance, supports department performance goals, and upholds established service, safety, and sanitation standards. The position promotes a culture of accountability, collaboration, and customer-focused service excellence within a structured and team-oriented work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily food production, meal service, and cafeteria operations to ensure safe, high quality, and timely nutrition services.
- Supervise production staff, providing direction, scheduling support, coaching, and performance feedback to maintain efficient workflow and service standards.
- Coordinate patient meal production and ensure adherence to diet specifications, cultural considerations, and age appropriate nutritional needs.
- Manage inventory, purchasing, and cost control processes to support budget expectations and operational efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, sanitation standards, and organizational policies across all nutrition service areas.
- Support catering events, retail operations, and special functions by coordinating logistics, monitoring quality, and ensuring customer satisfaction.
Qualifications
Licenses and Certifications Required:
- Certified Dietary Manager is preferred, or completion of CDM course within 1 year of hire.
Educational Requirements:
- Mature adult with a high school diploma or GED.
- 18 years of age or older.
Experience Requirements:
- Related work experience in a healthcare facility for five years or more.
- Two years of supervisory/management experience.
Special Skills or Training Requirements:
- Ability to prioritize job duties to assure completeness.
- Able to read and write accurately and legibly.
- Able to follow oral and written directions.
- Able to communicate orally with all customers, both internal and external.
- Complete tasks without direct supervision.
- Ability to work under pressure while organizing tasks to meet deadlines.
- Mathematical, Computer, excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Knowledge of accounting, quantity food purchasing, quantity food preparation, and commercial food service equipment.
Physical Requirements:
The Nutrition Services Manager is frequently required to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout kitchen, cafeteria, and storage areas. The role involves lifting, carrying, and transporting food items, supplies, and equipment of moderate weight, as well as operating commercial kitchen tools and appliances. Adequate vision, hearing, and manual dexterity are essential for monitoring food quality, ensuring safe equipment use, and communicating effectively in a busy work environment.
Environmental Requirements:
This position works in a commercial kitchen and food service environment with exposure to heat, cold storage areas, cleaning chemicals, and food preparation equipment. The work setting includes fastpaced meal production, frequent interruptions, and periods of high volume. The Nutrition Services Manager must follow all food safety, infection control, and workplace safety protocols and may experience variable scheduling based on departmental needs.
