PRIORITY CONSIDERATION WILL BE GIVEN IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE APPLICABLE COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT OR COUNTY POLICY.The position allocated to this class performs skilled routine work in one or more of the carpentry and painting trades in the installation, maintenance and repair of equipment, furnishings and structures. While an incumbent may be specialized in one trade, they are expected to be able to perform a variety of other duties. This class is distinguished from the Maintenance Technician 1 class by the emphasis on work independence and the competent application of skills in the trade specialty of the employee. This class is distinguished from the Maintenance Worker 3 class by emphasis on carpentry/painting trades, vs. skilled mechanical/electrical work on machinery, equipment and systems. Work is performed under the general direction of a lead worker or designated supervisor and is inspected while in progress or upon completion for compliance to instructions and trade standards.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Performs carpentry work in the renovation, alteration, and maintenance of County buildings, facilities and properties.
- Constructs foundations using forms; pours concrete and installs reinforcing steel, doors, windows, wooden fixtures, etc.
- Performs painting assignments using brush, roller, or spray equipment; prepares surfaces for painting; applies stains, varnishes, lacquers, and enamels to a variety of buildings, structures, fixtures, and surfaces. Refinishes cabinets or other items.Â
- Makes sign blanks; paints and letters signs.
- Coordinates, schedules, plans, and assigns work to be performed.
- Determines priorities; gives verbal and/or written work instructions to subordinates.
- Maintains safe working conditions through review, inspection, and training.Â
- Assists in the preparation of construction or maintenance cost estimates as directed.Â
- Inspects completed projects, verifies quality and status of work during all phases.Â
- Provides feedback regarding long and short term preventative maintenance needs.Â
- Evaluates and/or procures equipment and supplies.
- Works with outside contractors when applicable.Â
- Works within established budget guidelines, laws, regulations, codes, etc.
- Operates a variety of both light and heavy equipment, including, but not limited to, backhoe, tractors, fork lifts, dump trucks, and trailers.
- May apply herbicides and fertilizers to turf.
- May supervise or function as lead worker to other regular, seasonal and/or extra help staff in safety, training, maintenance and equipment operation duties.
- Performs other related duties as required/assigned.
When assigned to Park Operations:Â
- Performs specialized maintenance of playing fields, ornamental planting areas, hard surface areas, swimming pools, various "court" facilities, waterfront areas, picnic areas, trails, and other park facilities. Performs routine maintenance, construction and repair work to facilities and equipment such as structures, irrigation/sprinkler systems, playing fields, courts, equipment, trails, camp areas, picnic areas, and waterfront areas.Â
- Operates, maintains, and performs minor repairs on equipment and systems such as various mowing and trimming equipment, sprayers, hand and power tools, trucks, backhoes, irrigation systems, park and/or construction related equipment; performs basic preventative maintenance on same, including lubricating moving parts, changing filters, adjusting and changing belts, filters, and checking fluid levels.
- Performs a variety of carpentry assignments involving park facilities and structures; installs, repairs, replaces, or fabricates cabinets, shelves, and other wooden structures and fixtures, doors, windows, and wall partitions; performs basic concrete, masonry, roofing and metal work including fabrication and welding. May work with locks and other related hardware.
- Installs, maintains, repairs, and replaces routine plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, broken water lines, drains, leaky faucets, broken sprinkler heads, irrigation lines, valves, water tanks, and other related plumbing equipment.
- Installs, repairs, or replaces basic electrical systems, parts, and/or fixtures such as light switches, power outlets, light sockets, electrical motors, fuses, wiring, and other related electrical equipment or apparatus including low voltage systems.
- Maintains records of work performed.
- Performs and/or oversees general ground maintenance such as weeding, trimming, fertilizing, mowing, spraying, aerating, raking, shoveling, etc.
- Performs and/or oversees all types of interior and exterior custodial services including but not limited to sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, disinfecting, waxing, polishing, finishing, dusting, litter disposal, and debris removal, etc.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Two (2) years of work experience in construction, facilities/grounds maintenance, landscaping or performing similar trade/maintenance functions.Â
- Coursework or training in a related trades skill may substitute for up to one(1) year of the experience requirement.Â
- Possession of a valid Washington Driver's License at time of hire and throughout employment.
- Possession of a valid Washington Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - as required for the work.
- Additional requirements when assigned to Park Operations:Â
- valid First Aid Certification, including CPR (required within 6 months of hire)
- valid Commercial Driver's License (preferred)
- valid Washington State Herbicide/Pesticide License (preferred)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of the standard methods, materials, tools and equipment of one or more of the trades as required by the position.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
- Skilled in the use and care of tools and equipment.
- Skilled in communicating effectively both orally and in writing, sufficient to exchange or convey information and to give and receive work direction.
- Skilled in the installation of sprinkler systems and simple plumbing and wiring systems.
- Ability to perform a wide variety of grounds and building maintenance, repair and improvement tasks involving masonry, carpentry, painting, welding, and basic plumbing/electrical.  Â
- Ability to operate, maintain and repair a wide variety of hand/power tools and equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches and written instructions as required by the position.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and coworkers.Â
- Ability to perform tasks in other areas as assigned.
- Ability to effectively lead, assist, provide guidance and training to others.Â
- Ability to work with minimal direction and supervision.Â

WORKING CONDITIONS Â
- The work environment is primarily outdoors, which requires frequent exposure to all elements, i.e., insects, snakes, poison ivy, extreme cold and hot temperatures, snow and rain.
- Some work is on public infrastructure which may expose associate to traffic and hazards.

Total Compensation:
$53,988 - $75,180 AnnuallyTotal compensation is anestimate based upon base compensation, median retirement fund contributions, and current employer-paid health and related benefit contribution rates (including medical, dental, life insurance, long term disability, and leave). The actual total will vary depending upon each employee's enrollment choices.
