As a Mechanical Engineer, you’ll leverage your strong foundation in physics, mathematics, and materials science to process and resolve mechanical problems, design and implement custom mechanical tooling and associated processes, and enable the handling, assembly, and disassembly of parts, components, sub-assemblies, and final assemblies throughout the product life cycle. You'll be responsible for designing, developing, and modifying mechanical engineering layouts, schematics, and specifications. You will oversee manufacturing and installation processes, ensuring adherence to industry standards and regulations-- and you'll coordinate the procurement and assembly of mechanical components and equipment for design projects, identifying sources of critical parts and subsystems to resolve technical issues.Â

Applied Materials is looking for aMechanical Engineer who is an effective problem solver and system thinker. In this role, you willown the end‑to‑end design, development, and validation of hardware required to enableChemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) processes.
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will develop technical solutions by generating root‑cause hypotheses, brainstorming design concepts as part of a cross‑functional team and performing hands‑on testing to validate solutions. You will be instrumental in enabling key technologies and developing equipment that powers thenext generation of advanced semiconductor chips and displays used inArtificial Intelligence and Augmented Reality applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Technically lead engineering projects andown end‑to‑end execution, delivering complete solutions for technical problems of varying complexity.
- Deconstructon‑wafer performance requirements into clear engineering design requirements and collaborate with different engineering disciples like Process Engineering team to develop solutions that meet or exceed those requirements.
- Identifydesign tradeoffs and technical risks, evaluate alternatives, and select the optimal path to solution.
- Perform engineering analyses (e.g.,tolerance, thermal, structural, flow) to demonstrate designs will meet functional and performance objectives.
- Work with internal subject‑matter experts and external suppliers to design systems and components that achieve performance, reliability, and manufacturability requirements.
- Plan and executestructured experiments and validation tests to characterize performance, establish operating windows, and define design margins.
- Analyze experimental and field data using tools such asJMP and Microsoft Excel to identify trends, assess statistical significance, and draw sound engineering conclusions.
- Validate solutions usingfirst‑principles hand calculations and simulation tools (e.g.,FEA / CFD), correlating analytical predictions with test results.
- Prepare and delivertechnical presentations to cross‑functional teams, management, and customers.
- Create, specify, review, and releaseengineering documentation inTeamcenter, ensuring accuracy and configuration control across the product lifecycle.
Qualifications
- PhD or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering with5–7 years of applicable experience
- Experience insemiconductor equipment design or troubleshooting.
- Proficiency with3D CAD tools such asSiemens NX,Creo (Pro/ENGINEER), or SolidWorks
- Experience withengineering analysis tools (e.g.,ANSYS, CFD‑ACE, COMSOL) is a plus.
- Demonstrated strength in at least one technical domain:thermal engineering, compressible flow, mechanical design, or machining/manufacturing processes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to createclear, concise engineering documentation.
- Proven ability to build effectivecross‑functional relationships and communicate technical concepts to non‑experts.
- Ability toprioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast‑paced product development environment.
