What is a Legal Engineer?Â
You may know this role by another name. At Relativity we title it Legal AI Advisor, but it is the same emerging discipline the legal tech market calls legal engineering. A Legal Engineer is a practicing or former lawyer who works at the intersection of legal practice and artificial intelligence, helping attorneys understand, adopt, and get real value from AI-powered legal tools. The "engineering" here is not software engineering. It is the work of taking how legal matters actually get done, across litigation, investigations, privilege review, discovery, and compliance, and redesigning those workflows around generative AI so lawyers work faster, smarter, and more defensibly. Legal Engineers partner with lawyers across law firms, corporate legal departments, service providers, and public sector organizations, serving as credible peers and trusted advisors on AI adoption throughout the full customer journey, from first evaluation through everyday use.Â
