WHAT YOU WILL DO

TheSpecialist Software Engineer role offers a unique opportunity to join a fun, innovativeAppliedAI team within theAI & Data Science (AI&D) – Enterprise Automation organization at Amgen.

As aSpecialist Software Engineer, you will be an integral member of theAppliedAI – Custom GPT Practice team, which empowers Amgen teams and staff members to buildhigh‑value, purpose‑driven Custom GPTs through expert design and development support. You will play a key role in driving adoption of this program across multiple Amgen organizations by partnering with cross‑functional teams and senior leaders. This role requires strong technical depth, adaptability, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast‑evolving environment.

The primary responsibility of this role is todesign, develop, and deploy secure, scalable, and intuitive AI agents and Custom GPTs on leading enterprise AI platforms and tools.

GenAI / AI Delivery

• Design, develop, and deploy GenAI‑powered agents using large language models (LLMs), embeddings, vector databases, RAG frameworks, and prompt engineering.

• Develop, test, and deploy Custom GPTs using theChatGPT Enterprise UI for multiple functional teams across Amgen.

Collaboration & Enablement

• Partner closely with functional teams, product owners, data engineers, platform teams, DevOps, and business SMEs to translate business requirements into reliable, production‑grade solutions.

• Produce clear technical design documentation, runbooks, and handover materials to support operational sustainability.

• Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership to accelerate GenAI adoption across the enterprise.

• Drive platform adoption through best practices, reusable patterns, and shared assets, including agent templates, prompt patterns, Databricks notebooks, and n8n workflows.

• ImplementModel Context Protocols (MCPs) using APIs, SDKs, and orchestration tools to enable seamless integration with GenAI‑powered agents.

• Build integration layers and event‑driven orchestrations usingn8n (webhooks, nodes, APIs) to connect systems, trigger agent workflows, and implement human‑in‑the‑loop processes.

• Drive experimentation and innovation with new models, features, agents, and frameworks (e.g., OpenAI, Databricks, LangChain).

• Ensure solutions comply with Amgen’s data privacy, security, and regulatory standards.

• Stay current with advancements in Generative AI, LLMs, and RAG methodologies to continuously improve platform capabilities.

Basic Qualifications

• Master’s degree with5+ years of experience in Computer Science, IT, or a related field,OR

• Bachelor’s degree with8+ years of experience in Computer Science, IT, or a related field.

• Must‑Have Skills

• Ability to work effectively with global, distributed teams usingScaled Agile methodologies.

• 5+ years of professional experience in software development and system design.

• 3+ years of hands‑on experience building and deployingGenerative AI applications or Custom GPTs in production, centered aroundOpenAI (preferred), Claude, or Gemini.

Soft Skills

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• High degree of initiative and self‑motivation, with aservant‑leadership mindset.

• Ability to work under minimal supervision while delivering high‑quality outcomes.

• Excellent analytical, gap, and fit‑assessment skills.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities successfully.

• Team‑oriented, with a strong focus on achieving shared goals.

Good‑to‑Have Skills

• Experience working withPower Automate, Tableau, JIRA, and Smartsheet.

• Familiarity withGxP environments and systems validation.

• Experience working in regulated industries such asbiotech or healthcare.

• Hands‑on experience designing and building cloud‑native solutions, preferably onAWS (e.g., Bedrock, Lambda, SageMaker).

• Hands‑on experience with vector databases, embedding models, and retrieval pipelines.

• Strong programming skills inPython, with familiarity in GenAI libraries such as Transformers, LangChain, and Hugging Face.

• Experience with LLM fine‑tuning, prompt engineering, and model evaluation.

• Experience designing secure integrations using API gateways and RESTful services.

• Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to perform effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
