Under the KSC/ NH-INBRE supported component, the incumbent will oversee the daily operation and maintenance of the departmental shared cell culture facility used for both research and instructional purposes. Responsibilities will include ensuring biosafety compliance, maintaining laboratory inventories and supplies, training undergraduate students using the facility for research or course-based activities, and providing essential operational oversight required to sustain a functional and compliant laboratory environment.

Duties/Responsibilities

Maintenance & Feeding of regular Daphnia cultures -30%

• Feeding cultures every M, W andFriday

• Making Media for cultures

• Documentation of all day to dayactivities

• Making Stock solution for growthMedia

• Organization and cleaning of growth chambers and workarea

Generation & Maintenance Arsenic Generational Daphnia cultures -30%

• Making Stock solution for arsenic growthMedia

• Proper packaging, labelling and disposal of arsenicwaste

• Organdissections

• Nucleic acid extractions

Generation & Maintenance Chemostats -20%

• Proper washing and autoclaving of glassbottles

• Making media for algal cultures & testingpHs

• Maintaining continuous algalcultures

Support for Undergraduate Research student –20%

• Support for ongoing research and courseprojects

• Ordering lab supplies and keeping proper records of SDSsheets

• Attend weekly meetings with the PI to update on lab

• Trainingundergraduatestudents

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in Biology or relatedfield

• BasicLaboratoryTechniquesthatincludebutnotlimitedtoDaphniacultureandmaintenance,algaecultureand maintenance, maintenance and initiation of generational cultures,making growth media and proper documentation of daily activities in lab notebook

• Optimization of new laboratory protocols

Compensation Pay Range:

$21.56 an hour
