Litigation Paralegal

Join Brown Sims PC's South Florida office as aLitigation Paralegal and become an integral part of our busy Insurance Defense Litigation team. We are seeking an experienced litigation paralegal who can immediately assume responsibility for an active litigation docket, including calculating and calendaring deadlines, preparing and electronically filing court documents, drafting discovery requests and responses for attorney review, and coordinating discovery and case preparation from inception through trial. This position requires recent, hands-on Florida civil litigation experience and the ability to manage routine assignments with minimal instruction, subject to attorney supervision and review.

How Will You Make a Difference?

  • Review court orders, pleadings, discovery, and applicable procedural requirements to identify, calculate, calendar, and monitor litigation deadlines; maintain advance reminders; and promptly flag approaching deadlines, scheduling conflicts, and outstanding tasks.
  • Prepare documents and exhibits for filing; electronically file and serve attorney-approved documents through the Florida Courts E-Filing Portal and federal CM/ECF system; comply with court-specific filing requirements; and verify acceptance, service, and docket entries.
  • Prepare initial drafts of interrogatories, requests for production, requests for admission, and responses to written discovery for attorney review; coordinate with clients to obtain information, documents, and required verifications; and track outstanding discovery and response deadlines.
  • Prepare initial disclosures and supplemental disclosures and discovery responses for attorney review; identify missing information and follow up with clients and other sources to complete responses.
  • Review, organize, and summarize medical records, claims files, and other case-related documentation.
  • Prepare case analyses, chronologies, and litigation summaries for attorney review.
  • Review and summarize court filings, discovery responses, and other litigation documents.
  • Conduct background research on individuals, companies, and case-related matters.
  • Assist attorneys with deposition preparation, witness files, exhibit preparation, and trial support.
  • Draft subpoenas, authorizations, and other litigation-related documents in accordance with state and federal rules.
  • Coordinate with records custodians, vendors, experts, and medical providers to obtain case materials.
  • Prepare and maintain Excel spreadsheets, litigation trackers, and case management reports.
  • Accurately record and maintain billable time entries.
  • Utilize document management systems to organize and retrieve case information.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and legal staff to ensure efficient case progression from inception through resolution.
  • Collect, organize, review, Bates-label, and prepare documents for production; identify potentially privileged or confidential materials for attorney review; prepare draft privilege logs and necessary redactions; and maintain records of documents produced and received.
  • Prepare routine notices, correspondence, proposed orders, and other litigation documents for attorney review; coordinate hearings, depositions, mediations, examinations, and expert inspections; and arrange court reporters, interpreters, and other necessary services.
  • Assist with hearing and trial preparation, including exhibit and witness lists, deposition designations, subpoenas, exhibit binders, and compliance with pretrial orders.

What Will You Bring to the Table?

  • 5+ years of litigation paralegal experience, including substantial recent experience managing Florida state and federal court civil litigation, preferably within insurance defense litigation.
  • Strong knowledge of state and federal litigation procedures.
  • Experience reviewing, analyzing, and summarizing medical records, with familiarity in medical terminology.
  • Demonstrated ability to calculate and calendar litigation deadlines and manage an active docket with minimal instruction.
  • Hands-on experience preparing written discovery requests, responses, disclosures, and document productions.
  • Proficiency with the Florida Courts E-Filing Portal and experience with federal CM/ECF filing and service.
  • Working knowledge of Florida and federal civil litigation procedures, local rules, and judge-specific requirements.
  • Experience recording billable time consistent with insurance-carrier billing guidelines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Experience managing large case dockets and balancing multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge of subpoenas, authorizations, and records procurement processes.
  • Experience reviewing and summarizing discovery responses and court documents.
  • Strong legal research, analytical, and writing skills.
  • Experience working within a document management system.
  • Excellent organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform effectively under pressure and meet competing deadlines.
  • Billable time experience required.

  • Hours: 8:00 a.m. โ€“ 5:00 p.m. or 9:00 a.m. โ€“ 6:00 p.m. (flexible)
