Linux Systems Engineer

Job Title:LinuxSystems Engineer(Mid-Level)
Location:MiddleRiver, MD (Hybrid)
Employment Type:Full-Time (Hybrid). 3 days per weekon-site, plus on-sitepresence forprojects,experimentation, andtesting events.Includes occasionaloutdoor work invarying terrain andweather, and travel2–3 times per yearfor up to two weeks.

Salary:$110K –$135K

Position Overview:
MCFA is partnering with a defense research organization and leading their search for a Robotics Engineer to support intelligent robotics research. You’ll focus on software and hardware integration for proof-of-concept demonstrations and performance evaluation of autonomous behaviors on individual robots and teams of ground and aerial platforms. 

Key Responsibilities:

• AdministerLinux servers,services, andresearch systemssupporting the ROSEnclave, VPGcomputingenvironment, virtualtest range, and laband field platforms(Ubuntu and/or RHELderivatives)
• Build,configure, patch,monitor, andtroubleshoot Linuxhosts used forsimulation, datahandling, roboticsintegration, and LVC/hardware-in-the-loop(HWIL)experimentation
• Manage researcherand partner access toprototypeenvironments,including accounts,permissions, storage,and securedata-managementprocesses
• Partnerwith the NetworkEngineer and ARLresearchers tointegrate Linuxsystems with wired,wireless, tactical,and campus testnetworks
• SupportHPC access, datamovement, andsoftware transitioninto the LVC toolkit,includingcommand-line transfertools, liveanalytics, andmodeling workflows
• Help define thecomputing and HPCcapabilities for VPGintegration throughrequirementsgathering,trade-spaceevaluation, andarchitecture design.The systems aren’tpredetermined, soyou’ll help shapethem.
• Develop andmaintain SOPs,operating policies,user guides, systemdiagrams, andusage/performancereports
• Provideonsite and remotesupport forarchitecture reviews,integration events,demonstrations, andexperimentation
  

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer information systems, SystemsAdministration,Computer Science, ora related technicalfield
• 3–5 years ofLinux systemsadministration orsystems engineeringexperience
• U.S.citizenship and anactive U.S. SECRETclearance, or theability to obtain one
• DoD 8140-alignedcertification(minimum CompTIASecurity+ CE orequivalent; legacyDoD 8570 IAT IIacceptable), or theability to obtain onewithin 3 months ofstart
• Hands-onLinux administration(Ubuntu and/or RHEL):package, user, andservice management,storage, shellscripting, andtroubleshooting
• Experiencedeploying softwarewith Docker/Podmancontainers andorchestrating withKubernetes
• Familiarity withconfigurationmanagement andautomation tools(Ansible, Puppet,Chef)
• Experiencesupporting HPC accessor high-endsimulation / AIdevelopment systems
• Working knowledgeof networked Linuxsystems (TCP/IP,VLANs, VPN/remoteaccess, DNS,firewalls) andtroubleshooting tools(SSH, rsync,journalctl, tcpdump,Wireshark)
• Workingunderstanding ofsystem securitystandards (STIGs, CISbenchmarks, patch andconfigurationmanagement)

• Experience with ROS/ ROS 2 environmentsor Linux hosts usedwith roboticplatforms
