Journeyman ISSE
3–5 years of practical experience in Linux/Windows administration, security log collection, or IT cybersecurity support.
Working knowledge of Linux/Windows command line, log forwarding tools (syslog, WEF), network connectivity diagnostics, and basic SIEM query syntax.
Need the following 3 certs, one from each category
CompTIA Linux+, RHCSA, Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, or equivalent OS vendor certifications.
DoD Cyber Workforce / Credential Requirements
DoD 8570 / 8140 Baseline Certification: IAT Level II compliant (e.g., CompTIA Security+ CE, CySA+, CND, or SSCP).
DCWF Alignment: 461 Systems Security Analyst / 451 System Administrator
DUTIES:
ISSE provides hands-on engineering, configuration testing, log onboarding assistance, and day-to-day Tier 2 support under the guidance of the Senior ISSE and Lead SIEM Architect
Verifying agent deployments, log collection rules, transport daemons, and assisting GFL administrators in meeting onboarding requirements for the 150 target servers
Test and validate templates, scripts, GPOs, and agent profiles across ~20 OS flavors in the Agency environment
Provide responsive Tier 2 support (aiming for 90% resolution within 24 hours per AQL) to GFL system administrators; troubleshoot log collection, daemon errors, and network transport issues.
Validate log parsing and telemetry feeds for representative servers; record troubleshooting entries in the Tier 2 Support Log
Contribute to operational SOP drafting and assist in conducting delta training sessions for GFL Tier 1 personnel
