Machinist Level 3

ROLE SUMMARY:

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Setup and operation of manual and/or CNC machining equipment including DMG-Mori NT4300

• Ability to program at the machine for CNC equipment

• Machining of components to meet print dimensions and tolerances

• Parts measurement using tools such as, but not limited to

• • Outside micrometer

• • Inside micrometer

• • Depth micrometer

• • Digital, dial and vernier calipers

• • Scales 

• Maintaining an organized and safe work environment and help to drive improvements in the work center that will lead to increases in safety and efficiency

• Accurately completing all paperwork associated with tasks being performed

• Keeping up to date with all required trainings 

• Working on a variety of parts and processes across multiple machines

• Relying on experience and judgement to complete assignments

• Duties and tasks can reflect substantial complexity and may require ingenuity within the area of expertise

• May train lower-level employees

• May be called upon to check the work of lower-level employees

• May be designated as a manufacturing lead employee

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

• Typically, greater than 10 years’ experience doing similar work

• Working knowledge of DMG-Mori NT series machines

• Understands and buys into a zero-accident safety culture expectation

• Strong shop math skills including arithmetic, conversion of fractions to decimals, basic trigonometry

• Ability to read and interpret mechanical/production drawings including tolerancing

• For CNC machines, a strong understanding of G-code and / or conversational programming

• Knowledge of fixturing and safe / effective work holding

• Firm understanding of turning and milling insert geometries and grades

• Understanding of cut conditions including appropriate feeds, speeds and depths of cut, heat inputs and work hardening

 PREFERRED EXPERIENCE/SKILLS: 

• Operation and setup of DMG-Mori NT4300 with MAPPS/Celos control

• Experience working with cast materials

• Previous experience machining stainless alloys and super alloys

• Previous experience with 5s and lean manufacturing principles
