We are seeking alicensed Professional Engineer (PE) with strong hands-on experience in HVAC and mechanical MEP design to join a multidisciplinary engineering team. The role supports commercial, institutional, healthcare, municipal, veterinary, and other specialized facilities.

This is ahands-on engineering and design position, not a project management role. The successful candidate will lead mechanical system design, perform engineering calculations, prepare construction documents, coordinate with other disciplines, and provide technical oversight throughout the project lifecycle.

The ideal candidate can manage mechanical design from concept through construction and serve as theEngineer of Record for projects within their area of licensure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of HVAC and mechanical MEP systems for commercial and institutional facilities.
  • Perform heating and cooling load calculations, ventilation calculations, energy analyses, equipment sizing, and equipment selection.
  • Prepare mechanical plans, specifications, equipment schedules, technical details, calculations, and construction documents.
  • Serve as the Engineer of Record and provide technical oversight from conceptual design through construction and project closeout.
  • Coordinate mechanical designs with architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Review project requirements, applicable codes, existing conditions, and design criteria to develop effective engineering solutions.
  • Review contractor submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, and technical inquiries and provide timely engineering responses.
  • Conduct site investigations, field surveys, inspections, and construction observations.
  • Identify and resolve design conflicts, code compliance issues, constructability concerns, and field condition challenges.
  • Recommend cost-effective engineering solutions while maintaining system performance, code compliance, and project requirements.
  • Support commissioning, inspections, punch-list activities, and final project closeout.
  • Review and seal engineering drawings, calculations, specifications, and other technical documents within the scope of licensure.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and ensure engineering deliverables meet applicable quality standards.
  • Collaborate with clients, architects, contractors, engineers, and other stakeholders throughout design and construction.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience; 10+ years preferred.
  • Proven hands-on experience designing HVAC and mechanical MEP systems for commercial, institutional, healthcare, municipal, or similar facilities.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC load calculations, equipment selection, ventilation design, energy requirements, and applicable mechanical codes.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, or comparable mechanical design software.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, schedules, and construction documents.
  • Strong understanding of building systems coordination and multidisciplinary engineering design.
  • Excellent technical analysis, problem-solving, communication, and coordination skills.
  • Experience working directly with architects, contractors, owners, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Demonstrated hands-on HVAC and mechanical design experience is essential.
  • Experience with healthcare, municipal, institutional, veterinary, or other technically complex facilities is preferred.
  • Candidates with primarily project management, administrative, or coordination experience and limited hands-on mechanical design experience will not be considered.
