Reporting to the University Librarian (UL), the Librarian supports the teaching, learning, research, and creative activities of the University community. The Librarian provides in-person and online reference and research services, delivers library instruction, and collaborates with faculty and students to integrate information literacy into the curriculum. This position primarily supports evening and weekend operations.
The Librarian also contributes to collection development, assessment, and analysis to help ensure library resources remain responsive to academic needs. As part of a collaborative, service-oriented team, the Librarian supports outreach, engagement, and program development and works across library departments to foster an inclusive and innovative learning environment.
Summary of Responsibilities:
- Provide reference and research services to students and faculty
- Collaborate with faculty and colleagues to integrate information literacy and research education into the curriculum, advancing the Library’s commitment to teaching and learning.
- Liaise with faculty and students about services, resources, and collections
- Work with student monitors and placement students on projects as needed
- Participate in social media outreach and communications initiatives
- Under the UL’s direction, collaborate with other librarians and library staff on related projects
- Collect and maintain data, metrics, statistics related to position and duties
- Participate in the weekly service desk schedule,
- Contribute to system-wide service innovation and support the University Librarian on tasks or projects that advance the operations of Library Services.
- Support the UL in related duties that contribute to the successful operation of Library Services
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in library and information science from an ALA accredited institution or equivalent education and work experience
- Master’s degree in Art History or other Humanities degree, an asset
- Minimum of three (3) years of progressive work experience in a post-secondary academic library, preferred
- Experience with library systems (including Alma and Primo), preferred
- Demonstrated understanding of the academic library environment, preferably in an art, architecture, or design library.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and manage projects successfully; commitment to participate in appropriate professional service and conduct research and scholarship
- Familiarity with current library software and technologies (e.g., Ex Libris’ Alma/Primo, Springshare)
- Experience with project management of digitized and/or born-digital assets in a library, archives, or museum
- Demonstrated knowledge of current web accessibility standards, preferably AODA, and Canadian Copyright
- Demonstrated commitment to the principles of equity and diversity and experience promoting a respectful work and learning environment for students, staff and faculty
- Must be willing and able to work evening and weekend shifts
Compensation: Hiring Range - $42.96 to $49.16 per hour commensurate with experience, plus 4% vacation pay and 7% in lieu of benefits; Salary Range - $42.96 to $56.25 per hour.
Hours of Work: 15 hours per week. Monday toSaturday.
Schedule:To be determined in consultation with the UL but is anticipated to include two 4:00–8:00 p.m. shifts between Monday and Thursday each week. The remaining shift will alternate weekly: one week, Friday from 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; the following week, Saturday from 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.
This is a temporary contract expected to continue until December 18th, 2026.
