The Role 

The Medical Editor supports assigned projects and accounts by editing and proofreading materials, checking data, contributing to competitive intelligence writing, assessing copyright permissions, and completing other requested project tasks. 

Working under the direction of senior team members, the Medical Editor primarily works with internal colleagues, keeping them informed of project progress, while also communicating externally with congress organizers, journals, and copyright holders. The Medical Editor is expected to work across multiple accounts and gain broad experience in medical editing–related tasks. Through hands-on experience with various project types, they will develop their medical editing skills, undertake more technical editing and data-checking tasks, and build their copyright knowledge as they progress in the role.

What you'll do

    • Edits and proofreads scientific and medical communications for accuracy, clarity, consistency, readability, and compliance with client, house, journal, and congress style requirements. 

    • Reviews content critically, raisingappropriate queries and recommending changes to improve flow, comprehensiveness, and suitability for the intended audience. 

    • Applies andmaintains client-specific style guidelines and editorial processes, using judgment to agree on theappropriate level of editing or proofreading for each project. 

    • Performs data checking to verify that scientific information and claims areaccurate, used consistently, and supported by source references. 

    • Assesses copyright permissions requirements and provides clear, practical guidance to project and account teams, under the guidance of senior colleagues. 

    • Manages assigned work across multiple projects and accounts, delivering high-quality outputs to agreeddeadlines and escalating issues appropriately. 

    • Manages time and own workload effectively, communicates proactively with editorial and account teams, and contributes reliably to successful project delivery. 

About you

    • Degree in a scientific or related field;advanced degreeadvantageous (MD, PhD, PharmD, MSc, or equivalent). 

    • Minimum of1 year of experience in medical or scientificeditingwithin a healthcare consultancy or medical communications agency. 

    • Working knowledge of medical style guides, such as the AMA Manual of Style, andproficiency in applying the necessary guidelines to project deliverables. 

    • Knowledge of client reference and review processes. 

    • Knowledge of online reference-retrieval tools. 

    • Knowledge of copyright permissions and how they apply in the medical communications/pharmaceutical industry. 

    • Proficiency ininternet and PubMed searches, and knowledge of literature reviews and how to conduct them. 

    • Proficiency in the use ofMicrosoft Office, specifically Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; Adobe Acrobat; and the reference management software EndNote. 

    • Ability to prioritise, work independently with minimal supervision, and collaborate effectively as part of a team.
